لَن تَنَالُواْ

92. None of you shall ever attain righteousness until you spend out of what you love, and whatever thing you spend, Allah surely is All-Knowing of it.

93. All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel (Jacob) had forbidden himself before the Torah was revealed. Say: ‘Bring the Torah, and recite it if you are truthful.’

94. So whoever fabricates lies about Allah after that, it is they who are the wrongdoers.

95. Say: ‘Allah has spoken the truth, so follow the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham), an upright man of pure faith, and he was not among the polytheists.’

96. Indeed, the first House established for people (to worship Allah) is the one at Bakka (Mecca), a blessed sanctuary and a (centre of) guidance for all nations.

97. There are clear signs in it, (one of which is) the station of Ibrahim (Abraham). Whoever enters it shall be secure. Pilgrimage to this House is an obligation for Allah upon the people who can afford the journey to it. And whoever disbelieves, Allah is indeed beyond the need of (His) creatures.

98. Say: ‘O People of the Book! Why do you deny the revelations of Allah, while Allah is witness to what you do?’

99. Say: ‘O People of the Book! Why do you bar the one who believes from the path of Allah, seeking to make it crooked, while you are witnesses (to its truthfulness)? And Allah is not negligent of what you do.’

100. O believers! If you yield to a group of those given the Book, they will turn you back into disbelievers after you had believed.

101. But how can you disbelieve while Allah’s revelations are recited to you, and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) is among you? Whosoever holds fast to Allah is indeed guided to the straight path.

102. O believers! Be God-conscious with the consciousness due to Him. And do not die except as Muslims.

103. Hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah, and do not split into factions. And remember Allah’s blessing upon you when you were enemies, and He brought your hearts together, so you became brothers by His blessings. You were on the brink of a pit of Fire and He saved you from it. Thus, Allah clarifies His signs for you so that you may be (rightly) guided.

104. There has to be a community among you that calls to the good, enjoins what is right and forbids what is wrong. It is they who are successful.

105. Do not be like those who split into factions and fell into disputes after clear signs had come to them. It is they for whom shall be a terrible punishment.

106. On the Day when (some) faces will turn bright and (some) faces will turn dark. As for those whose faces darken, (it will be said:) ‘Did you disbelieve after having believed? So taste the punishment for you used to disbelieve.’

107. But as for those whose faces turn bright, they shall abide in Allah’s mercy. They will remain in it forever.

108. (O Prophet!) These are the revelations of Allah, which We recite to you in truth. And Allah does not intend injustice to any of (His) creation.

109. To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on the earth. And to Allah, all matters will be returned.

110. You are the best nation (ever) brought forth for (the guidance of) humankind: you enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. And if the People of the Book had believed, it would have certainly been better for them. Few of them are (true) believers, and most of them are evil-doers.

111. They will never do you much harm except hurting a little. If they fight you, they will turn their backs (to flee) and will not be helped.

112. They will be stricken with disgrace wherever confronted unless (they are provided asylum) under some covenant from Allah or the people. They have incurred Allah’s wrath and have been subjected to poverty. That is because they would persistently disbelieve in Allah’s revelations and kill the prophets wrongly. That is because they acted rebelliously and used to commit transgression.

113. Yet they are not all alike. Among the People of the Book is an upright group; they recite Allah’s revelations during night hours while remaining in prostration (before their Lord).

114. They believe in Allah and the Last Day, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong and are prompt in (performing) good deeds. And they are among the righteous.

115. And whatever good they do, they will never be denied (the just reward of it). And Allah is All-Knowing of the God-conscious.

116. As for the disbelievers, neither their resources nor their children will save them in the least from (the torment of) Allah. Those are the inhabitants of the Fire, and they shall remain in it forever.

117. The example of what they spend in the life of this world is like a freezing wind which strikes the harvest of a people who wronged themselves, destroying it (altogether). Allah does not wrong them, but they wrong themselves.

118. O believers! Do not take (anyone) as an intimate friend besides yourselves. They will spare no effort to ruin you. They wish you to suffer. Severe hatred is already evident from the words in their mouths, but what their hearts conceal is far worse. We have indeed made the signs clear to you if (only) you understand.

119. Here you are; you love them, but they do not love you, although you believe in all the Books. When they meet you, they say: ‘We believe,’ but when they are alone, they bite their fingertips out of rage against you. Say: ‘Die in your rage (if you wish).’ Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing of what is in the breasts.

120. If some good befalls you, it upsets them, but if some evil afflicts you, they rejoice at it. However, if you are patient and God-conscious, their scheme will not harm you in the least. Indeed, Allah comprehends whatever they are doing.

121. And (remember) when you left your family early in the morning to assign the believers their positions for the battle. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

122. Remember when two of your battalions (Banu Salama of Khazraj and Banu Haritha of Aws) were about to lose courage, though Allah was their Protector! So, let the believers put their trust in Allah.

123. Indeed, Allah helped you at Badr when you were utterly weak (in numerical and military strength). Therefore, be conscious of Allah so that you may become grateful.

124. (O Prophet! Remember) when you were saying to the believers: ‘Is it not enough for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels, sent down (upon you)?’

125. Of course, if you remain patient and God-conscious, and they (the disbelievers) launch a sudden attack upon you, then your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand distinctly marked angels.

126. Allah did not make it, except as glad tidings for you so that your hearts may become content with it, and victory comes only from Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

127. And He may destroy a faction of the disbelievers or frustrate them so that they may retreat with disappointment.

128. This matter is not for you. (But it is for Him) whether He forgives or punishes them, for they are indeed transgressors.

129. To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. He forgives whomever He wills and punishes whomever He wills, and Allah is Most Forgiving, All-Merciful.

130. O believers! Do not consume usury doubled and redoubled, and be conscious of Allah so that you may prosper.

131. And fear the Fire, which has been prepared for the disbelievers.

132. And obey Allah and the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) so that you may be granted (His) mercy.

133. And hasten towards forgiveness from your Lord, and Paradise, whose breadth is as (vast as) the heavens and the earth, prepared for the God-conscious,

134. those who spend in charity during times of prosperity and adversity, control their anger and excuse (the faults of) people. And Allah loves the benevolent.

135. And those who, when they commit an indecent act or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins. And who forgives sins besides Allah? And they do not knowingly persist in what they have done.

136. Their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens with rivers flowing beneath them. They will reside in them forever. How excellent is the reward of those who perform (righteous deeds)!

137. Certain precedents (from the perished nations) have passed before you. So, travel the earth and observe the fate of the deniers.

138. This (Qur’an) is an exposition for humankind—a guidance and admonition for the God-conscious.

139. Do not deem yourselves weak and do not grieve (over your losses); you shall have the upper hand if you are (true) believers.

140. If injuries have afflicted you (at the Battle of Uhud, then recall that) similar injuries had already afflicted those people (at the Battle of Badr). These are the days (of victory and defeat) that We alternate between people (in turns) so that God may reveal the true believers and choose martyrs from among you. And Allah does not like the wrongdoers.

141. And so that Allah may refine the believers (by testing them through their patience and steadfastness) and destroy the disbelievers (through their arrogance and transgression).

142. Do you assume that you will enter Paradise while Allah has not yet revealed those of you who have struggled hard (for His cause), nor has He revealed the steadfast?

143. Certainly, you used to desire death (as a martyr) before you encountered it, and now you have seen it while you were looking on.

144. And Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) is but a Messenger; (other) messengers have (also) gone before him. If he were to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels (towards disbelief)? Anyone who turns back on his heels will not harm Allah whatsoever. And Allah will soon reward the grateful (for remaining steadfast during hardship).

145. It is not for a soul to die except with the permission of Allah at an appointed time. Whoever desires the reward of this world, We will give him of it. And whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter, We will give him of it. And We will soon reward the grateful.

146. And how many a prophet has been, while many godly devotees fought alongside them, who did not lose heart in the face of their sufferings in Allah’s cause; they neither weakened nor surrendered (or humbled themselves). And Allah loves the patient (and steadfast).

147. All that they would say was: ‘Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and our excesses in our affairs; keep our feet firm; and help us against the disbelieving people.’

148. Therefore, Allah gave them the reward of this world and the excellent reward of the Hereafter. And Allah loves those who are excellent (in devotion and steadfastness).

149. O believers! If you yield to the disbelievers, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will turn into losers.

150. Nay, Allah is your Guardian, and He is the best of helpers.

151. Soon, We shall cast panic into the hearts of the disbelievers because of their ascribing partners to Allah, for which He has not sent down any authority. And their abode shall be the Fire. How miserable is the abode of the wrongdoers!

152. Allah certainly fulfilled His promise to you (at the Battle of Uhud) when you were killing them with His leave, until (the moment) you lost heart, and (some of you) disputed about the matter (of abandoning or sticking to the positions fixed for the archers) and disobeyed (the instructions), after He had shown you (the victory) that you were longing for. Some of you desired the (gains of this) world, and some of you desired the Hereafter. Then He prevented you from (defeating) them so that He might test you. However, He has (now) pardoned you, for Allah is Most Gracious to the believers.

153. (O believers! Remember) when you were running far away (in a panic) without paying attention to anyone, and the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) was calling you from behind (standing among the group of believers that was steadfast). Then He recompensed you with distress upon distress, so you may not grieve for (the victory) you had lost, nor for (the injury) occurred to you. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

154. Then He sent upon you peace after distress in the (form of) drowsiness that came over a group of you. In contrast, the other group (i.e. the hypocrites) were worried only about themselves, entertaining evil thoughts about Allah, the thoughts of pagan ignorance. They say: ‘Do we have any role in the matter?’ Say: ‘Indeed, the matter belongs entirely to Allah.’ They hide in their hearts what they do not disclose to you. They say: ‘If we had any say in this matter, we would not have been killed here.’ Say: ‘Even if you were to remain in your homes, those destined to be killed would still have gone to the places where they would die. (It has happened), so that Allah may test what is in your breasts and expose (for the believers) what is in your hearts. And Allah is All-Knowing of what is (hidden) in the breasts.

155. As for those of you who fled on the day when the two armies met (at the Battle of Uhud), only Satan caused them to slip on account of some of their deeds (i.e. abandoning the positions fixed for the archers). But Allah has now surely forgiven them. Indeed, Allah is Most-Forgiving, All-Forbearing.

156. O believers! Do not be like the disbelievers who say to their brothers when they travel in the land or are engaged in fighting: ‘Had they stayed with us, they would not have died or been slain.’ So Allah will make this (thinking) a cause of regret in their hearts. It is Allah Who gives life and causes death. Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.

157. If you are slain in the way of Allah or die, surely forgiveness and mercy from Allah would be better than what they accumulate.

158. Whether you die or are martyred, all of you will be gathered before Allah.

159. It is out of Allah’s mercy that you (O Prophet!) are lenient (and gentle) to them! Had you been harsh or hard-hearted, they would surely have dispersed from around you. So pardon them, implore forgiveness for them and consult them in (important) matters. Once you have made a firm decision, then put your trust in Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who trust in Him.

160. If Allah helps you, none can overcome you, but if He forsakes you, who can help you after Him? So, in Allah, let the believers put their trust.

161. It is not (conceivable) for a prophet to breach a trust. Whoever breaches a trust will bring what he obtained by breaching on the Day of Resurrection. Then, every soul shall be fully recompensed for what it has earned, and they shall not be wronged.

162. Can the person who pursues Allah’s pleasure be like the one who has earned Allah’s displeasure? His home will be Hell, and it is an evil destination.

163. They (each) have various ranks in the sight of Allah. Allah is All-Seeing of what they do.

164. Indeed, Allah conferred a great favour on the believers when He raised among them a Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) from themselves, who recites to them His revelations, purifies them, and teaches them the Book and Wisdom, while they had previously been in manifest error.

165. Why is it when a calamity befell you (at Uhud), although you had made your enemy suffer twice as much (at Badr), you said: ‘How did this happen?’ (O Prophet!) Say: ‘It is from yourselves.’ Indeed, Allah is All-Capable of everything.

166. And what befell you on the day when the two armies encountered each other was by Allah’s leave, so that Allah may distinguish the (true) believers,

167. and that He may (also) expose the hypocrites. (When) it was said to them: ‘Come (now), fight in the way of Allah or (at least) defend (yourselves against the enemy invasion),’ they said: ‘If only we knew how to fight (or if we considered it a fighting in the cause of Allah), we would certainly have followed you.’ That day, they were closer to disbelief than to (their pretend) belief. They utter from their mouths what is not in their hearts. And Allah knows best whatever they conceal.

168. (They are the ones) who said about their brothers while they were sitting (at home): ‘If they had obeyed us, they would not have been killed.’ Say: ‘Then keep death away from yourselves if you are truthful.’

169. Do not ever think of those martyred in the way of Allah to be dead. Rather, they are alive and provided sustenance from the presence of their Lord,

170. rejoicing in what Allah has given them out of His grace, and they also feel delighted for those (righteous believers) who have not (yet) joined them among those left behind. They shall have no fear on them, nor shall they grieve.

171. They rejoice in receiving Allah’s blessing and grace and that Allah does not waste the reward of the believers.

172. (They are the ones) who responded to Allah and the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) even after the severe injuries had afflicted them. For those among them who have been virtuously excellent and God-conscious, there shall be a mighty reward.

173. Those to whom the people warned: ‘Surely the people (i.e. your enemies) have gathered (in great numbers) against you, so fear them.’ But this (warning) only made them grow stronger in faith, and they said: ‘Allah is Sufficient for us, and He is an excellent Guardian!’

174. So they (the Muslims) returned with Allah’s blessing and grace, untouched by any evil. They pursued the pleasure of Allah, and Allah is the Lord of Mighty Grace.

175. Surely, it is only Satan frightening his friends. So do not fear them, but fear Me (only) if you are (true) believers.

176. Do not let those who hasten in disbelief grieve you. They will not harm Allah in the least. Allah intends to give them no share in the Hereafter. And there is a terrible punishment for them.

177. Those who purchase disbelief in exchange for belief will never harm Allah in the least, and there is a painful punishment for them.

178. And the disbelievers should not assume that the respite We are providing them is good for their souls. We grant them respite only that they may increase in sin. And there is a humiliating punishment for them.

179. Allah would not leave the believers in the condition you were in, until He distinguishes the corrupt from the good. And (O people!) Allah will not inform you of the Unseen, but Allah chooses from His messengers whom He pleases (to receive the knowledge of the Unseen). So believe in Allah and His messengers; if you are believers and God-conscious, there shall be a mighty reward for you.

180. Those who were miserly with what Allah has granted them out of His grace should not think it is good for them. Instead, it is bad for them. Whatever they miserly withhold, they shall have it hung around their necks soon on the Day of Resurrection. To Allah belongs the inheritance of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

181. Allah has certainly heard the words of those who said: ‘Allah is poor, and we are rich.’ We shall record what they have said and their killing of the prophets wrongly. And We shall say: ‘Taste (now) the punishment of the burning.

182. That is because of what your hands have sent forth, and Allah is never unjust to the servants.’

183. (To) those who say: ‘Allah has commanded us not to believe in any messenger unless he brings us an offering consumed by fire.’ (O Esteemed Prophet!) Say: ‘Certainly many messengers have come to you before me bearing clear signs, including the one you mention. Then why did you kill them if you are truthful?’

184. But if they deny you, (other) messengers have (also) been denied before you, who came with clear signs (i.e. miracles), scriptures and the illuminating Book.

185. Every soul shall taste death. And you will indeed be paid your reward in full on the Day of Resurrection. Whosoever is saved from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has certainly succeeded. And the worldly life is nothing but the enjoyment of delusions.

186. (O believers!) You will surely be tested in (regards to) your possessions and yourselves, and you will surely hear much what is hurtful from those given the Book before you and from the polytheists. But if you remain patient and God-conscious, that is indeed the steadiest of courses.

187. And (remember) when Allah took a pledge from those given the Book: ‘You shall make it clearly known to the people and not conceal it,’ yet they cast it behind their backs and sold it for a small price. How evil is what they purchase!

188. Do not think those who rejoice in what they have done and love to be praised for what they have not done—so never suppose them secure from (Our) punishment. And there is a painful torment for them.

189. To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is All-Capable of everything.

190. Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for the possessors of intellect.

191. (They are) the ones who remember Allah while standing, sitting and lying on their sides, and they reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth (and say:) ‘Our Lord! You have not created this in vain. Glory be to You! Protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

192. Our Lord! Whomsoever You enter into the Fire, You have surely disgraced him, and there shall be no helpers for the wrongdoers.

193. Our Lord! We have indeed heard a Caller (i.e. the Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) calling to (true) faith, (saying:) ‘Believe in your Lord!’ So we have believed. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins, absolve us of our misdeeds and make us die with the virtuous.

194. Our Lord! Grant us what You have promised us through Your messengers, and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You never break Your promise.’

195. Then, their Lord answered them: ‘Certainly I do not waste the work of any worker among you, whether male or female—one of you being from the other (i.e. each one of you is like the other, being on the same footing). So those who migrated or were expelled from their homes, and were persecuted in My way, and fought (in defence) and were killed, I shall surely acquit them of their misdeeds and shall admit them into the Gardens with flowing rivers beneath them, as a reward from Allah. And with Allah is the most beautiful reward.

196. (O believer!) Let the bustle of the disbelievers in the towns not delude you.

197. (This is only) a brief enjoyment, then their abode will be the Hellfire. What an evil abode!

198. But those who are conscious of their Lord shall have Gardens with rivers flowing beneath them. They will reside in them forever, as a hospitality that Allah Himself offers. And that which is with Allah is better for the virtuous.

199. Indeed, there are some among the People of the Book who truly believe in Allah, what has been revealed to you and what has been revealed to them. They humble themselves before Allah, never selling Allah’s revelations for a paltry gain. They shall have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allah is Swift in reckoning.

200. O believers! Be patient, excel in steadfastness, fortify your defence and be conscious of Allah, so that you may be successful.

1. O people! Be conscious of your Lord, Who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate. And from the pair of them, He scattered numerous men and women. So, be conscious of Allah in Whose Name you make requests (of your rights) from one another, and be careful (in observing the rights) of the wombs (i.e. blood relations). Indeed, Allah is All-Watchful over you.

2. Give the orphans their possessions, and do not replace (your) bad things with (their) good ones. And do not consume their possessions (by mingling them) with your possessions, for that is indeed a great crime.

3. If you fear that you might not deal justly with orphan girls, then marry such women as seem good to you (or lawful for you), two, three or four. But if you fear that you will fail to maintain justice (between them), then (marry) only one, or (marry from those) whom your right hands possess (i.e. female captives in your lawful custody). It is more likely that you will not be unfair (or partial).

4. Give women their bridal gifts graciously as an obligation. But if they are willing to give up some part of it for you, you may consume it with a clear conscience and wholesome enjoyment.

5. Do not give the feeble-minded your property which Allah has entrusted you to manage (as a means of support for you), but provide for them and clothe them out of it, and speak to them honourable words.

6. And test the orphans well until they reach marriageable age. Then, if you find them capable of sound judgement, hand over to them their property. And do not consume it wastefully and hastily (before) they grow mature. If any man (i.e. the guardian of an orphan) is well off, let him abstain (from the orphan’s property), and if he is poor, let him take a reasonable provision (as compensation). And when you deliver to them their property, call witnesses on their behalf. And Allah is Sufficient as the Reckoner.

7. Men shall have a share of what (their) parents and closest relatives leave (behind), and women shall have a share of what (their) parents and closest relatives leave (behind), whether it is little or much; these are obligatory shares.

8. And if relatives, orphans or needy people (other than the heirs) are present at the time of distribution, give them some (share) out of it, and speak honourable words to them.

9. Let those (guardians) fear (regarding the orphans under their care) as they would if they were to leave (their own) helpless children behind. So let them be conscious of Allah and speak upright words.

10. Indeed, those who unjustly consume the property of orphans only consume fire into their bellies, and soon they will burn in a blazing flame.

11. Allah enjoins you concerning your children: the male shall have the equal of the share of two females; if there are only females, more than two, they shall have two-thirds of what the deceased has left, but if there be one only, for her shall be one-half. And for each of his parents, a sixth of what the deceased has left, if he has children; but if he has no children, and his parents are his (sole) heirs, then his mother shall have a third. However, if he has brothers, then a sixth for his mother. (In all cases, the distribution of inheritance comes) after the payment of any bequest, he may have made or any debt (he may have incurred). Your parents and your children—you do not know who is more beneficial to you. (This is) an obligation ordained by Allah. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

12. You will inherit half of what your wives leave if they have no children. If they have children, then your share is one-fourth of what they leave after (paying off) any bequest they may have made or any debt (they may have incurred). And for them is one-fourth of what you leave if you have no children. But if you have children, then for them is one-eighth of what you leave after (paying off) any bequest you may have made or any debt (you may have incurred). However, if a man or a woman, being inherited, dies, leaving no children or parents (behind), but has a brother or a sister (from the same mother), then each of them shall receive one-sixth. If there are more than that, then they shall share in one-third, after (paying off) any bequest that has been made or any debt (that has been incurred) without harming (anyone). (This is) an injunction from Allah, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Forbearing.

13. These are the limits set by Allah. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him), He shall admit him to Gardens with rivers flowing beneath them. They shall reside in them forever, and that is the supreme success.

14. But whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) and exceeds His limits, He shall cause him to enter a Fire. (He shall remain) in it forever, and he shall have a humiliating punishment.

15. As for those of your women who commit an indecent act (i.e. adultery), produce against them four witnesses from among yourselves. If they testify, confine them to (their) homes until (natural) death completes their term of life, or Allah ordains a (different) course for them.*

* This verse makes the husband responsible for procuring four witnesses to establish the accusation. Otherwise, the accused will not be liable to the hadd (i.e. the prescribed punishment). Suppose the available evidence does not fulfil the requirement mentioned above; in that case, it will fall under the category of crimes liable to discretionary punishment (ta‘zir). This principle establishes the guidelines for judges and legal authorities for trial and prosecution. Moreover, the sentence of life imprisonment was later repealed and replaced by the ‘hadd’ punishment.

16. When two of you commit this (sin of adultery), punish them both. But if they repent and reform, then leave them alone. Indeed, Allah is Most Clement, All-Merciful.

17. Allah shall turn (in forgiveness) only towards those who commit evil out of ignorance and then repent soon after. They are the ones whom Allah will pardon. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

18. However, (the acceptance of) repentance is not for those who persist in committing sins until death approaches one of them, (and then) he says: ‘Now I repent’, nor for those who die as disbelievers. For such people, We have prepared a painful punishment.

19. O believers! It is not permissible for you to inherit women (of your deceased relatives) through coercion, nor should you mistreat them (or prevent them from remarrying) so that you may take away some of what you have given them (as a ransom for divorce) unless they commit gross indecency (i.e. adultery). Treat them honourably; if you dislike them, perhaps you hate something while Allah has placed abundant good in it.

20. If you desire to replace a wife with another wife (by divorcing one to wed another), even if you have given one of them a massive amount of gold (as a bridal gift), do not take anything back from it. Would you take it back by way of accusation and blatant sin?

21. How could you take it back while you have had intimate marital relations with each other, and they have (also) taken a firm covenant from you?

22. Do not marry any of the women your fathers had married, excluding what has passed previously. It was surely an indecent, hateful and evil custom.

23. Forbidden to you (for marriage) are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, your brother’s daughters, your sister’s daughters, your (foster) mothers who have suckled you, your suckling sisters, mothers of your wives, your stepdaughters who are in your care—(born) from your wives with whom you have consummated the marriage—if you have not consummated the marriage with them, then there is no sin upon you (in marrying them)—the wives of your begotten sons and that you join two sisters (in marriage at one time), except for what has passed. Indeed, Allah is Most Forgiving, All-Merciful.
