Sura Nuh

The Manifest Quran 71

Introduction of Surah

Nuh is the 71st sura of the Qur’an, and takes its name from the account of Prophet ‘Nuh (Noah [peace be upon him])’ starting from the 1st verse till the end of the chapter. The sura belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 28 verses, 224 words, 959 letters, and 2 segments. It is the 71st sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-Nahl. The sura begins with God Almighty’s statement that He has sent Prophet Nuh (Noah [peace be upon him]) to his people to warn them before the punishment overtakes them. The sura is devoted almost entirely to the story of Prophet Nuh (Noah [peace be upon him]) which covers his warning to his people, followed by his attempts to invite them to the truth both secretly and publicly, and lastly his appeal to his people to seek forgiveness from God Almighty. Prophet Noah’s community deny God Al-mighty’s message arrogantly and persist in worshipping their idol gods, especially Wadd, Suwa‘, Yaghuth, Ya‘uq and Nasr. Upon their stubborn denial, Prophet Nuh (Noah [peace be upon him]) appeals to God Almighty against them, saying: ‘He should not leave even a single disbeliever on the earth.’ Finally, the terrible Flood overtakes them, and they are drowned in it. The sura ends with Prophet Noah’s prayer for himself, his parents, whoever enters his house as a believer and all believing men and women of the world.
