Sura Saba’

The Manifest Quran 34

Introduction of Surah

Saba’ (Sheba) is the 34th sura of the Qur’an. It derives its name from verses 15–21, which contain a story of the ruling Yemenite tribe, whose branches spread in the Arabian Peninsula. Later Saba’ (Sheba) became the capital seat of South Arabian civilisation in ancient times. Sheba was the son of Yashjub, the son of Ya‘rub, the son of Qahtan. This sura belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 54 verses, 880 words, 4,512 letters, and 6 segments. It is the 58th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura Luqman. The story contains the destruction of Sheba with a devastating flood and warnings to the deniers of the Day of Res-urrection. The sura further mentions God’s favours to Prophet Dawud (David) and Prophet Sulayman (Solomon [peace be upon both of them]), including warnings to the spoiled elite and idol worshippers. In the end, the sura declares the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) a bearer of good news and a warner for the evildoers and invites the Meccan pagans and deniers to accept the truth before it becomes too late.
