Sura al-Duha

The Manifest Quran 93

Introduction of Surah

al-Duha is the 93rd sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Morning Brightness’, and takes its name from the 1st verse. The sura belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 11 verses, 40 words, 172 letters, and 1 segment. It is the 11th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-Fajr. It is reported that the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) had not received the revelation for some days, and one of the idolaters said to him: ‘O Muhammad! It seems that your Lord has forsaken you.’ Hence, the sura was revealed, beginning with two oaths, consoling and reassuring the Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) that God has not abandoned him. The sura reminds the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) of the highest favours and blessings that God Almighty bestows upon him (blessings and peace be upon him), and ends by urging the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) to care for the orphans and the needy, and to proclaim the favours of the Lord upon him.
