Sura al-A‘la

The Manifest Quran 87

Introduction of Surah

al-A‘la is the 87th sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Most Exalted’, and takes its name from the 1st verse. It belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 19 verses, 78 words, 271 letters, and 1 segment. It is the 8th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-Takwir. The sura begins with the Glorification of God Almighty, stating God Almighty’s blessings to humans, from His creations to perfection, and further instructs the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) to warn the sinners. Then sura states that the most unfortunate is the one who ignores all exhortation and will burn in the Hellfire. Ultimately, the sura describes the meaning of success, referring to the earlier scriptures of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham [peace be upon him]) and Prophet Musa (Moses [peace be upon him]).
