Introduction of Surah

al-Inshiqaq is the 84th sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Bursting Open’, and takes its name from the 1st verse. It belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 25 verses, 107 words, 433 letters, and 1 segment. It is the 83rd sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-Infitar. The sura begins by referring to ‘the bursting open of the heavens’. It may be compared with the opening verse of Sura al-Infitar (The Splitting Apart). The sura mentions the judgement of the Last Day where the righteous will be given their records in their right hands, and the sinners will be given their records in their left hands from behind their backs, and will burn in a blazing Fire. The sura concludes with a series of oaths, inviting people towards belief and good deeds.
