al-Jumu‘a is the 62nd sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘Friday—the Day of Congregation’ and takes its name from the 9th verse. It belongs to the Medinan period and comprises 11 verses, 180 words, 720 letters, and 2 segments. The sura is the 110th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-Saff. The sura mentions the raising of the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) as God Almighty’s blessings upon the people, present and future, for delivering the divine revelation of God Almighty, purifying his followers and teaching them the Book and wisdom. Furthermore, this sura counsels the believers when they hear the call to prayer on Friday to hurry to ‘the remembrance of God’ and to cease trading.
