Sura al-Layl

The Manifest Quran 92

Introduction of Surah

al-Layl is the 92nd sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Night’, and takes its name from the 1st verse. The sura belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 21 verses, 71 words, 310 letters, and 1 segment. It is the 9th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-A‘la. The sura begins with three distinct oaths: By the night, by the day and by God Almighty Himself, the Creator. It then proceeds to promise a happy end to the generous and the pious, but the opposite to the misers. The central theme of sura is that human beings have diverse ways and ends, and are free to choose between good and evil, and wealth will not help the latter when he dies. The sura is particularly significant in stressing the doctrine that it is good faith and good deeds, that leads one to Paradise, and it is wrong faith and evil deeds that leads one to Hellfire.
