Sura al-Mulk

The Manifest Quran 67

Introduction of Surah

al-Mulk is the 67th sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Kingdom’ and takes its name from the 1st verse. The sura belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 30 verses, 330 words, 1,313 letters, and 2 segments. It is the 77th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-Tur. The sura begins by describing God Almighty’s infinite Power, Kingdom, and Wisdom of creating life and death. The sura says: ‘He is the Creator of Seven Heavens having no flaw and imperfection’. The sura further depicts the horrors of the punishment of Hell for the disbelievers, and conversely describes Allah Almighty’s forgiveness and mighty rewards for the believers. Those who inhabit Hell will be asked whether a warner came to them. They will respond in the affirmative but admit that they rejected such warners. The sura educates people through a series of questions so that they may reflect upon the realities of faith, such as, how can Almighty Allah not know the open and hidden secrets of His creations; can the creatures be out of the reach of their Creator; can the rightly guided people and those deprived of guidance be equal; who created the humans and gave them ears, eyes and intellect; if God decides to punish someone, who can save him from God Almighty’s wrath? The sura concludes with a warning to the deniers of the Day of Resurrection and invites them to reflect upon the truth.
