al-Mutaffifin is the 83rd sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘Those Who Give Short Measure’, and takes its name from the 1st verse. It belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 36 verses, 109 words, 430 letters, and 1 segment. It is the 86th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-‘Ankabut. The sura is considered the last chapter to have been revealed in Mecca before migration to Medina took place. The title of the sura threatens those who who are unjust in their financial affairs by giving short measures to those whom they deal with, and condemns unfair business and trading practices. The sura further mentions the miserable fate of evil people and promises the joyful delights of Paradise for the pious, and those nearest to God Almighty. The sura concludes by mentioning the fate of the evildoers who used to mock the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) and his follower.
