Introduction of Surah

al-Qari‘a is the 101st sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Terrible Calamity’ or ‘The Sudden Misfortune’, and takes its name from the 1st and 2nd verses. The sura belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 11 verses, 36 words, 150 letters, and 1 segment. It is the 30th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura Quraysh. The sura begins with a reference to the time of the Day of Resurrection. The sura provides a brief description of the end of the world and the Judgement with scales. The person whose scales of good deeds are heavy will be rewarded generously, and the person whose scale of deeds are light, his abode will be the scorching Fire of Hell.
