Sura al-Qiyama

The Manifest Quran 75

Introduction of Surah

al-Qiyama is the 75th sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Resurrection’, and takes its name from the 1st verse. The sura belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 40 verses, 199 words, 352 letters, and 2 segments. It is the 31st sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-Qari‘a. This sura starts with two oaths; the Day of the Resurrection and the self-blaming soul. The sura, moves on to refutes those who deny the Day of Resurrection and itemises some vital signs of that time, reminding them of God Almighty’s power to raise the dead. It further counsels the Holy Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) to receive the revelation of the Qur’an with patience. The sura identifies two categories of the people on the Day of Resurrection; the ones with radiant faces who will be gazing upon their lord, and others with deformed and blackened faces, who will anticipate the calamity that will fall upon them. The sura concludes by men-tioning the biological creation of humans and their final resurrection.
