Introduction of Surah

al-‘Adiyat is the 100th sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Galloping Horses or the Chargers’, and takes its name from the 1st verse. The sura belongs to the Meccan period and comprises 11 verses, 40 words, 160 letters, and 1 segment. It is the 14th sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-‘Asr. The sura begins with five oaths in various forms of galloping horses. Following this, the sura discusses the state of human beings and their ingratitude towards God Almighty. The sura concludes with a reminder to theoeople that they will be resurrected, emerging from their graves, and judged on the Day of Judgement.
