Introduction of Surah

al-Zalzala / al-Zilzal is the 99th sura of the Qur’an, which means ‘The Earthquake’, and takes its name from the 1st verse. The sura belongs to the Medinan period and comprises 8 verses, 35 words, 119 letters, and 1 segment. It is the 93rd sura in chronological order, revealed after Sura al-Nisa’. Its title comes from the reference to the Earthquake of the Last Day. The sura indirectly refers to the doctrine of the resurrection of the body from the dead, and concludes that on that Day, people will see the record and the consequences of their good and bad deeds.
