تِلْكَ الرُّسُلُ

254. O believers! Spend from what we have provided you before a day arrives when there shall be neither trading, nor friendship, nor intercession. And the disbelievers—they are the wrongdoers.

256. There is no compulsion in religion. True guidance has become distinct from error. So, the one who renounces false gods and believes in Allah has grasped the firmest handhold. It is not breakable, and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

257. Allah is the Guardian of the believers. He brings them out of darkness into light. As for the disbelievers, their guardians are the idols. They bring them out of light into darkness. They are the inhabitants of the Fire. They shall remain in it forever.

261. The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is that of a grain (of wheat or corn), which grows into seven ears; in each ear, there are a hundred grains. Allah multiplies for whomever He wills. Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.

262. Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and then do not follow up what they have spent with reproaches and insults shall have their reward with their Lord. There shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve.

263. Kind words and forgiveness are better than a charitable deed followed by a hurtful act. Allah is All-Sufficient, All-Forbearing.

268. Satan threatens you with poverty and prompts you to indecency, whereas Allah promises you (His) pardon and bounty. And Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.

269. He grants wisdom to whom He pleases, and whoever is granted wisdom is certainly given an abundant good. Yet none will remember except those possessing insight.

270. Whatever charity you may give, and whatever vow you may vow, Allah indeed knows it, and the wrongdoers shall have no helpers.

271. If you disclose charitable deeds (in public), that is fine, but if you hide them and give them to the poor (privately), that is better for you. It will atone for (some of) your misdeeds. Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

274. Those who spend their wealth (in charity) by night and day, secretly and openly—for them is their reward with their Lord; there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve.

276. Allah eliminates (blessings from) usury and makes charity flourish. Allah does not like any ingrate sinner.

277. Indeed, those who believe, perform righteous deeds, establish the prayer and give the alms-due shall have their reward with their Lord. There shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve.

278. O believers! Be God-conscious, and abandon (all claims to) what remains of usury if you are true believers.

279. If you do not (comply), then be warned of war from Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him). If you repent, you will have your principal, neither doing wrong to others nor being wronged.

280. And if the debtor is in adversity, let there be respite until the time of ease. And if you remit (the debt) as an act of charity, it will be better for you if you know (the worth of generosity).

281. And be cautious of the Day when you (all) shall be brought back to Allah. Then, every soul shall be recompensed fully for what it has earned—and they will not be wronged.

284. To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Whether you reveal whatever is in your hearts or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it. Then He will forgive whomever He wills and punish whomever He wills. And Allah is All-Capable of everything.

1. Alif, Lam, Mim.

2. Allah! There is no god except Him, the Ever-Living, the All-Sustaining.

3. (O Esteemed Prophet!) He has (gradually) revealed to you the Book with the truth confirming what was (revealed) before it, as He had revealed the Torah and the Injil (the Gospel),

4. previously, as a guide for people. And (now) He has revealed the Criterion (i.e. the Holy Qur’an). Indeed, those disbelieving in Allah’s revelations will have a severe punishment. And Allah is All-Mighty, the Lord of Retribution.

5. Nothing is hidden from Allah on the earth or in the sky.

6. He is the One Who shapes you in the wombs (of your mothers) as He wills. There is no god except Him, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

8. (They say:) ‘Our Lord! Do not make our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself. Indeed, You are the All-Bestower.

9. Our Lord! You will indeed gather (all) humankind for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allah never breaks (His) promise.’

10. As for the disbelievers, neither their wealth nor their children shall avail them (in the least) against Allah. It is they who are the fuel of the Fire.

11. (It is) like the affair of Pharaoh’s folk and those before them. They denied our signs. So Allah seized them for their sins, and Allah is severe in retribution.

12. (O Prophet!) Say to the disbelievers: ‘You shall be overcome and driven (together) into Hell; it is an evil resting place.’

14. The love of (worldly) temptations has been adorned for humankind, such as (the love of) women and children, accumulated treasures of gold and silver, splendid horses, livestock and farms. That is the enjoyable provision of the worldly life. But Allah—with Him is the best abode.

16. (They are) those who say: ‘Our Lord, we believe, forgive us our sins and save us from the punishment of the Fire.’

17. (They are) patient, truthful, obedient, charitable and imploring (Allah’s) forgiveness at dawn.

18. Allah bears witness that there is no god except Him. And (so do) the angels and those possessing knowledge. (He is) the Maintainer of Justice. There is no god but Him, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

19. Indeed, the (true) religion in Allah’s sight is Islam. Those given the Book did not differ except after knowledge had come to them. (This opposition appeared only)—out of rivalry among themselves. Whoever disbelieves in Allah’s revelations (should know that), Allah is quick in reckoning.

21. Those who disbelieve in Allah’s revelations, slay the Prophets wrongly and slay those people who call for justice—give them the tidings of a painful punishment.

22. They are the ones whose deeds shall come to nothing in this world and the Hereafter, and they shall have no helpers.

23. Have you not seen those given a portion of the Book being called to Allah’s Book that it might judge between them, then a group of them turn away (refusing to comply)? And they are disregardful.

24. That is because they say: ‘The Fire shall not touch us except for a (small) number of days. They have been deceived in their religion by the lies they used to fabricate.

25. But how (horrible) will it be when we gather them on a Day about which there is no doubt, when every soul shall be paid in full for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged?

26. Say: ‘O Allah, Master of the kingdom! You give authority to whomever You will, and You take away authority from whomever You will. You honour whomever You will, and You disgrace whomever You will. All good is in Your Hand. Indeed, You are All-Capable of everything.

27. You merge the night into the day, and You merge the day into the night. You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You provide sustenance to whomever You will without measure.’

29. Say: ‘Whether you conceal what is in your hearts or reveal it, Allah knows it, and He (thoroughly) knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And Allah is All-Capable of everything.’

31. (O Esteemed Prophet!) Say: ‘If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins, and Allah is Most-Forgiving, All-Merciful.’

32. Say: ‘Obey Allah and the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him).’ But if they turn away, then Allah does not like the disbelievers.

33. Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Nuh (Noah) and the descendants of Ibrahim (Abraham) and the descendants of ‘Imran above all the nations,

34. as offspring, one from another. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

35. And (recall) when the wife of ‘Imran (Maryam’s father) said: ‘My Lord, I dedicate to You what is in my womb, freeing him (of worldly obligations). So accept it from me. Indeed You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.’

38. Thereupon, Zakariyya (Zechariah) prayed to his Lord. He said: ‘My Lord! Grant me virtuous offspring from Your Grace. Indeed, You hear all supplications.’

39. Then the angels called out to him, while he stood praying (or supplicating) at the prayer chamber: ‘Allah gives you the good news of (a son,) Yahya (John), verifying a Word from Allah. He will be noble, chaste and a prophet among the righteous.’

40. He (Zakariyya) said: ‘My Lord, how shall I have a son while old age has overtaken me, and my wife is (also) barren?’ God said: ‘Even so, Allah does whatever He pleases.’

41. He (Zakariyya) said: ‘My Lord, grant me a sign.’ Allah said: ‘Your sign is that you will not (be able to) speak to people for three days except by gesture. And remember your Lord much and glorify Him in the evening and the morning.’

42. And (recall) when the angels said: ‘O Maryam (Mary)! Surely Allah has chosen you, purified you and exalted you above the women of the world (today).

43. O Maryam (Mary)! Be obedient to your Lord with humbleness, and prostrate and bow down with those who bow (in worship).’

44. (O Esteemed Prophet!) These (reports) are from the Unseen, which We reveal to you. And you were not with them when they were casting their lots (to decide) which of them would take charge of Maryam’s care, nor were you with them when they were disputing (about her).

45. When the angels said: ‘O Maryam (Mary)! Surely, Allah gives you good news of a Word from Him whose name is Messiah, ‘Isa, the son of Maryam (Jesus, the son of Mary), who will be highly honoured in this world and the Hereafter and one of those brought nearest (to Allah).

46. He will speak to people in the cradle and adulthood and will be among the righteous.’

47. She said: ‘My Lord! How can I bear a son when no human has ever touched me?’ He said: ‘Such is the will of Allah. He creates whatever He pleases.’ When He has decreed a matter, He only says to it: ‘Be !’ and it is!
