In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the All-Merciful
یٰسٓ ۚ﴿۱﴾
1. Ya-Sin.
يس
(يٰس، 36 : 1)
وَ جَعَلۡنَا مِنۡۢ بَیۡنِ اَیۡدِیۡہِمۡ سَدًّا وَّ مِنۡ خَلۡفِہِمۡ سَدًّا فَاَغۡشَیۡنٰہُمۡ فَہُمۡ لَا یُبۡصِرُوۡنَ ﴿۹﴾
9. We have placed a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, and then We have veiled them so they do not see.
وجعلنا من بين أيديهم سدا ومن خلفهم سدا فأغشيناهم فهم لا يبصرون
(يٰس، 36 : 9)
اِنَّمَا تُنۡذِرُ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الذِّکۡرَ وَ خَشِیَ الرَّحۡمٰنَ بِالۡغَیۡبِ ۚ فَبَشِّرۡہُ بِمَغۡفِرَۃٍ وَّ اَجۡرٍ کَرِیۡمٍ ﴿۱۱﴾
11. You (can) only warn the one who follows the Reminder and fears the Most-Compassionate (Lord) without seeing Him. So give him the glad tidings of forgiveness and a generous reward.
إنما تنذر من اتبع الذكر وخشي الرحمن بالغيب فبشره بمغفرة وأجر كريم
(يٰس، 36 : 11)
اِنَّا نَحۡنُ نُحۡیِ الۡمَوۡتٰی وَ نَکۡتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوۡا وَ اٰثَارَہُمۡ ؕؑ وَ کُلَّ شَیۡءٍ اَحۡصَیۡنٰہُ فِیۡۤ اِمَامٍ مُّبِیۡنٍ ﴿٪۱۲﴾
12. Indeed, it is We Who revive the dead and write down what they have sent forth and their effects (which they have left behind). We have counted everything in a clear Record.
إنا نحن نحيي الموتى ونكتب ما قدموا وآثارهم وكل شيء أحصيناه في إمام مبين
(يٰس، 36 : 12)
وَ اضۡرِبۡ لَہُمۡ مَّثَلًا اَصۡحٰبَ الۡقَرۡیَۃِ ۘ اِذۡ جَآءَہَا الۡمُرۡسَلُوۡنَ ﴿ۚ۱۳﴾
13. And set out for them an example of the people of a town when the messengers came to them.
* Most exegetes identify the town as Antioch (an ancient city in Northern Syria).
واضرب لهم مثلا أصحاب القرية إذ جاءها المرسلون
(يٰس، 36 : 13)
اِذۡ اَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ اِلَیۡہِمُ اثۡنَیۡنِ فَکَذَّبُوۡہُمَا فَعَزَّزۡنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوۡۤا اِنَّاۤ اِلَیۡکُمۡ مُّرۡسَلُوۡنَ ﴿۱۴﴾
14. When (at first) We sent them two (messengers), they rejected both of them, then We reinforced (the two) with the third, and they declared: ‘We (all) have been sent to you (as messengers).’
إذ أرسلنا إليهم اثنين فكذبوهما فعززنا بثالث فقالوا إنا إليكم مرسلون
(يٰس، 36 : 14)
قَالُوۡا مَاۤ اَنۡتُمۡ اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثۡلُنَا ۙ وَ مَاۤ اَنۡزَلَ الرَّحۡمٰنُ مِنۡ شَیۡءٍ ۙ اِنۡ اَنۡتُمۡ اِلَّا تَکۡذِبُوۡنَ ﴿۱۵﴾
15. They said: ‘You are only human beings like us, and the Most- Compassionate (Lord) has not revealed anything. You are just lying.’
قالوا ما أنتم إلا بشر مثلنا وما أنزل الرحمن من شيء إن أنتم إلا تكذبون
(يٰس، 36 : 15)
قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّا تَطَیَّرۡنَا بِکُمۡ ۚ لَئِنۡ لَّمۡ تَنۡتَہُوۡا لَنَرۡجُمَنَّکُمۡ وَ لَیَمَسَّنَّکُمۡ مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ اَلِیۡمٌ ﴿۱۸﴾
18. They answered: ‘We take you as an evil fortune. If you do not stop, we shall certainly stone you, and surely a painful punishment will afflict you from us.’
قالوا إنا تطيرنا بكم لئن لم تنتهوا لنرجمنكم وليمسنكم منا عذاب أليم
(يٰس، 36 : 18)
قَالُوۡا طَآئِرُکُمۡ مَّعَکُمۡ ؕ اَئِنۡ ذُکِّرۡتُمۡ ؕ بَلۡ اَنۡتُمۡ قَوۡمٌ مُّسۡرِفُوۡنَ ﴿۱۹﴾
19. They (the messengers) said: ‘Your evil fortune lies within yourselves. (Why do you take it as an evil omen) when you are reminded (of the truth)? Instead, you are a transgressing people.’
قالوا طائركم معكم أئن ذكرتم بل أنتم قوم مسرفون
(يٰس، 36 : 19)
ءَاَتَّخِذُ مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖۤ اٰلِہَۃً اِنۡ یُّرِدۡنِ الرَّحۡمٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَّا تُغۡنِ عَنِّیۡ شَفَاعَتُہُمۡ شَیۡئًا وَّ لَا یُنۡقِذُوۡنِ ﴿ۚ۲۳﴾
23. Should I take gods besides Him? If the Most-Compassionate (Lord) intends to cause me any harm, their intercession will not benefit me in any way, nor will they be able to rescue me.
أأتخذ من دونه آلهة إن يردن الرحمن بضر لا تغن عني شفاعتهم شيئا ولا ينقذون
(يٰس، 36 : 23)
وَ مَاۤ اَنۡزَلۡنَا عَلٰی قَوۡمِہٖ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِہٖ مِنۡ جُنۡدٍ مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ وَ مَا کُنَّا مُنۡزِلِیۡنَ ﴿۲۸﴾
28. And after him, We did not send any army (of angels) from the heavens upon his people, nor were We to send down (any punishment to destroy them).
وما أنزلنا على قومه من بعده من جند من السماء وما كنا منزلين
(يٰس، 36 : 28)
وَ اٰیَۃٌ لَّہُمُ الۡاَرۡضُ الۡمَیۡتَۃُ ۚۖ اَحۡیَیۡنٰہَا وَ اَخۡرَجۡنَا مِنۡہَا حَبًّا فَمِنۡہُ یَاۡکُلُوۡنَ ﴿۳۳﴾
33. And a sign for them is the dead earth. We give it (fresh) life and bring the grain out of it so they eat from it.
وآية لهم الأرض الميتة أحييناها وأخرجنا منها حبا فمنه يأكلون
(يٰس، 36 : 33)
سُبۡحٰنَ الَّذِیۡ خَلَقَ الۡاَزۡوَاجَ کُلَّہَا مِمَّا تُنۡۢبِتُ الۡاَرۡضُ وَ مِنۡ اَنۡفُسِہِمۡ وَ مِمَّا لَا یَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۳۶﴾
36. Glory be to Him, Who created all things in pairs from what the earth produces, from themselves, and from other things they do not know.
سبحان الذي خلق الأزواج كلها مما تنبت الأرض ومن أنفسهم ومما لا يعلمون
(يٰس، 36 : 36)
وَ الۡقَمَرَ قَدَّرۡنٰہُ مَنَازِلَ حَتّٰی عَادَ کَالۡعُرۡجُوۡنِ الۡقَدِیۡمِ ﴿۳۹﴾
39. As for the moon, We have (also) determined phases (for its motion and rotation) until it appears back (to the dwellers of the earth) like an old dry branch of a palm tree.
والقمر قدرناه منازل حتى عاد كالعرجون القديم
(يٰس، 36 : 39)
لَا الشَّمۡسُ یَنۡۢبَغِیۡ لَہَاۤ اَنۡ تُدۡرِکَ الۡقَمَرَ وَ لَا الَّیۡلُ سَابِقُ النَّہَارِ ؕ وَ کُلٌّ فِیۡ فَلَکٍ یَّسۡبَحُوۡنَ ﴿۴۰﴾
40. It is not allowable for the sun that it should (deviate from its orbit and) overtake the moon, nor can the night precede the day. And all of them (i.e. the stars and the planets) are moving in their respective orbits.
لا الشمس ينبغي لها أن تدرك القمر ولا الليل سابق النهار وكل في فلك يسبحون
(يٰس، 36 : 40)
وَ اِذَا قِیۡلَ لَہُمُ اتَّقُوۡا مَا بَیۡنَ اَیۡدِیۡکُمۡ وَ مَا خَلۡفَکُمۡ لَعَلَّکُمۡ تُرۡحَمُوۡنَ ﴿۴۵﴾
45. When it is said to them: ‘Beware of what is ahead of you (in the Hereafter), and what is behind you (from the remnants of the destroyed nations), so that you may be shown mercy.’
وإذا قيل لهم اتقوا ما بين أيديكم وما خلفكم لعلكم ترحمون
(يٰس، 36 : 45)
وَ اِذَا قِیۡلَ لَہُمۡ اَنۡفِقُوۡا مِمَّا رَزَقَکُمُ اللّٰہُ ۙ قَالَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا لِلَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اَنُطۡعِمُ مَنۡ لَّوۡ یَشَآءُ اللّٰہُ اَطۡعَمَہٗۤ ٭ۖ اِنۡ اَنۡتُمۡ اِلَّا فِیۡ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِیۡنٍ ﴿۴۷﴾
47. And when they are told: ‘Spend out of what Allah has provided you,’ the disbelievers say to the believers: ‘Shall we feed (someone) whom Allah would have fed if He had wanted?’ You are just in clear error.
وإذا قيل لهم أنفقوا مما رزقكم الله قال الذين كفروا للذين آمنوا أنطعم من لو يشاء الله أطعمه إن أنتم إلا في ضلال مبين
(يٰس، 36 : 47)
قَالُوۡا یٰوَیۡلَنَا مَنۡۢ بَعَثَنَا مِنۡ مَّرۡقَدِنَا ٜۘؐ ہٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ الرَّحۡمٰنُ وَ صَدَقَ الۡمُرۡسَلُوۡنَ ﴿۵۲﴾
52. They will say: ‘Alas for us! Who has raised us from our place of sleep? This is what the Most-Compassionate (Lord) had promised, and the messengers spoke the truth.’
قالوا يا ويلنا من بعثنا من مرقدنا هذا ما وعد الرحمن وصدق المرسلون
(يٰس، 36 : 52)
اَلَمۡ اَعۡہَدۡ اِلَیۡکُمۡ یٰبَنِیۡۤ اٰدَمَ اَنۡ لَّا تَعۡبُدُوا الشَّیۡطٰنَ ۚ اِنَّہٗ لَکُمۡ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِیۡنٌ ﴿ۙ۶۰﴾
60. ‘Did I not command you, O Children of Adam, that you should not worship Satan? He is indeed your open enemy.
ألم أعهد إليكم يا بني آدم أن لا تعبدوا الشيطان إنه لكم عدو مبين
(يٰس، 36 : 60)
اَلۡیَوۡمَ نَخۡتِمُ عَلٰۤی اَفۡوَاہِہِمۡ وَ تُکَلِّمُنَاۤ اَیۡدِیۡہِمۡ وَ تَشۡہَدُ اَرۡجُلُہُمۡ بِمَا کَانُوۡا یَکۡسِبُوۡنَ ﴿۶۵﴾
65. That Day, We will seal their mouths. Their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will bear witness to what they used to earn.
اليوم نختم على أفواههم وتكلمنا أيديهم وتشهد أرجلهم بما كانوا يكسبون
(يٰس، 36 : 65)
وَ لَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخۡنٰہُمۡ عَلٰی مَکَانَتِہِمۡ فَمَا اسۡتَطَاعُوۡا مُضِیًّا وَّ لَا یَرۡجِعُوۡنَ ﴿٪۶۷﴾
67. If We had wished, We would have deformed (or paralysed) them at their places. Then, they could neither go ahead nor turn back.
ولو نشاء لمسخناهم على مكانتهم فما استطاعوا مضيا ولا يرجعون
(يٰس، 36 : 67)
اَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا اَنَّا خَلَقۡنَا لَہُمۡ مِّمَّا عَمِلَتۡ اَیۡدِیۡنَاۤ اَنۡعَامًا فَہُمۡ لَہَا مٰلِکُوۡنَ ﴿۷۱﴾
71. Do they not see that We have created livestock for them, among (all other things) that Our Mighty Hands have generated, and they have control over them?
أولم يروا أنا خلقنا لهم مما عملت أيدينا أنعاما فهم لها مالكون
(يٰس، 36 : 71)
اَوَ لَمۡ یَرَ الۡاِنۡسَانُ اَنَّا خَلَقۡنٰہُ مِنۡ نُّطۡفَۃٍ فَاِذَا ہُوَ خَصِیۡمٌ مُّبِیۡنٌ ﴿۷۷﴾
77. Does human being not see that We created him from a fertilised egg (i.e. zygote*)? And even then, he is an open disputant?
* In Arabic, the word ‘al-nutfa’ is mentioned, and it refers to a zygote, which is a mixture of male and female gametes. It is the new single cell formed after the union of a sperm and ovum.
أولم ير الإنسان أنا خلقناه من نطفة فإذا هو خصيم مبين
(يٰس، 36 : 77)
وَ ضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَّ نَسِیَ خَلۡقَہٗ ؕ قَالَ مَنۡ یُّحۡیِ الۡعِظَامَ وَ ہِیَ رَمِیۡمٌ ﴿۷۸﴾
78. And he draws comparisons for Us and forgets (the truth of) his creation. He says: ‘Who will revive the bones when they have (already) decayed?’
وضرب لنا مثلا ونسي خلقه قال من يحيي العظام وهي رميم
(يٰس، 36 : 78)
اَوَ لَیۡسَ الَّذِیۡ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضَ بِقٰدِرٍ عَلٰۤی اَنۡ یَّخۡلُقَ مِثۡلَہُمۡ ؕ بَلٰی ٭ وَ ہُوَ الۡخَلّٰقُ الۡعَلِیۡمُ ﴿۸۱﴾
