In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the All-Merciful
نَحۡنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَیۡکَ اَحۡسَنَ الۡقَصَصِ بِمَاۤ اَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ اِلَیۡکَ ہٰذَا الۡقُرۡاٰنَ ٭ۖ وَ اِنۡ کُنۡتَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِہٖ لَمِنَ الۡغٰفِلِیۡنَ ﴿۳﴾
3. We recount to you the most beautiful stories through what We have revealed to you in (the form of) this Qur’an. And before it, you were among those who were unaware (of this information).
نحن نقص عليك أحسن القصص بما أوحينا إليك هـذا القرآن وإن كنت من قبله لمن الغافلين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 3)
اِذۡ قَالَ یُوۡسُفُ لِاَبِیۡہِ یٰۤاَبَتِ اِنِّیۡ رَاَیۡتُ اَحَدَعَشَرَ کَوۡکَبًا وَّ الشَّمۡسَ وَ الۡقَمَرَ رَاَیۡتُہُمۡ لِیۡ سٰجِدِیۡنَ ﴿۴﴾
4. And (recall) when Yusuf (Joseph) said to his father: ‘O my father! I have seen eleven stars, the sun and the moon. I saw them prostrating before me.’
إذ قال يوسف لأبيه يا أبت إني رأيت أحد عشر كوكبا والشمس والقمر رأيتهم لي ساجدين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 4)
قَالَ یٰبُنَیَّ لَا تَقۡصُصۡ رُءۡیَاکَ عَلٰۤی اِخۡوَتِکَ فَیَکِیۡدُوۡا لَکَ کَیۡدًا ؕ اِنَّ الشَّیۡطٰنَ لِلۡاِنۡسَانِ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِیۡنٌ ﴿۵﴾
5. He said: ‘O my son, do not relate your dream to your brothers, lest they devise some scheme against you. Surely, Satan is an open enemy of humankind.
قال يا بني لا تقصص رؤياك على إخوتك فيكيدوا لك كيدا إن الشيطان للإنسان عدو مبين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 5)
وَ کَذٰلِکَ یَجۡتَبِیۡکَ رَبُّکَ وَ یُعَلِّمُکَ مِنۡ تَاۡوِیۡلِ الۡاَحَادِیۡثِ وَ یُتِمُّ نِعۡمَتَہٗ عَلَیۡکَ وَ عَلٰۤی اٰلِ یَعۡقُوۡبَ کَمَاۤ اَتَمَّہَا عَلٰۤی اَبَوَیۡکَ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ اِبۡرٰہِیۡمَ وَ اِسۡحٰقَ ؕ اِنَّ رَبَّکَ عَلِیۡمٌ حَکِیۡمٌ ٪﴿۶﴾
6. That is how your Lord will choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams, and He will complete His blessing upon you and upon the House of Ya‘qub (Jacob), just as He completed it earlier for your fathers Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ishaq (Isaac). Indeed, your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
وكذلك يجتبيك ربك ويعلمك من تأويل الأحاديث ويتم نعمته عليك وعلى آل يعقوب كما أتمها على أبويك من قبل إبراهيم وإسحق إن ربك عليم حكيم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 6)
اِذۡ قَالُوۡا لَیُوۡسُفُ وَ اَخُوۡہُ اَحَبُّ اِلٰۤی اَبِیۡنَا مِنَّا وَ نَحۡنُ عُصۡبَۃٌ ؕ اِنَّ اَبَانَا لَفِیۡ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِیۡنِۣ ۚ﴿ۖ۸﴾
8. And (recall) when they said: ‘Certainly, Yusuf (Joseph) and his brother (Benjamin) are more beloved to our father than us, though we are a (more powerful) group (comprising ten members). Surely, our father is openly lost (in his love).
إذ قالوا ليوسف وأخوه أحب إلى أبينا منا ونحن عصبة إن أبانا لفي ضلال مبين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 8)
اقۡتُلُوۡا یُوۡسُفَ اَوِ اطۡرَحُوۡہُ اَرۡضًا یَّخۡلُ لَکُمۡ وَجۡہُ اَبِیۡکُمۡ وَ تَکُوۡنُوۡا مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِہٖ قَوۡمًا صٰلِحِیۡنَ ﴿۹﴾
9. ‘Kill Yusuf (Joseph), or banish him to some (distant) land, so that your father’s attention may become exclusively yours. After that, you can (repent and) become righteous people.
اقتلوا يوسف أواطرحوه أرضا يخل لكم وجه أبيكم وتكونوا من بعده قوما صالحين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 9)
قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنۡہُمۡ لَا تَقۡتُلُوۡا یُوۡسُفَ وَ اَلۡقُوۡہُ فِیۡ غَیٰبَتِ الۡجُبِّ یَلۡتَقِطۡہُ بَعۡضُ السَّیَّارَۃِ اِنۡ کُنۡتُمۡ فٰعِلِیۡنَ ﴿۱۰﴾
10. One of them said: ‘Do not kill Yusuf (Joseph) but throw him into the depths of some well so that some caravan might pick him up if you are to do anything.’
قال قآئل منهم لا تقتلوا يوسف وألقوه في غيابة الجب يلتقطه بعض السيارة إن كنتم فاعلين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 10)
قَالَ اِنِّیۡ لَیَحۡزُنُنِیۡۤ اَنۡ تَذۡہَبُوۡا بِہٖ وَ اَخَافُ اَنۡ یَّاۡکُلَہُ الذِّئۡبُ وَ اَنۡتُمۡ عَنۡہُ غٰفِلُوۡنَ ﴿۱۳﴾
13. He said: ‘It saddens me that you should take him away, and I fear a wolf may eat him while you are careless of him.’
قال إني ليحزنني أن تذهبوا به وأخاف أن يأكله الذئب وأنتم عنه غافلون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 13)
فَلَمَّا ذَہَبُوۡا بِہٖ وَ اَجۡمَعُوۡۤا اَنۡ یَّجۡعَلُوۡہُ فِیۡ غَیٰبَتِ الۡجُبِّ ۚ وَ اَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ اِلَیۡہِ لَتُنَبِّئَنَّہُمۡ بِاَمۡرِہِمۡ ہٰذَا وَ ہُمۡ لَا یَشۡعُرُوۡنَ ﴿۱۵﴾
15. So when they took him away and agreed to put him in the hidden depths of a well, We revealed to him: ‘(O Yusuf! One day,) you will surely tell them this affair of theirs, while they will not be aware (of your identity).’
فلما ذهبوا به وأجمعوا أن يجعلوه في غيابة الجب وأوحينآ إليه لتنبئنهم بأمرهم هـذا وهم لا يشعرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 15)
قَالُوۡا یٰۤاَبَانَاۤ اِنَّا ذَہَبۡنَا نَسۡتَبِقُ وَ تَرَکۡنَا یُوۡسُفَ عِنۡدَ مَتَاعِنَا فَاَکَلَہُ الذِّئۡبُ ۚ وَ مَاۤ اَنۡتَ بِمُؤۡمِنٍ لَّنَا وَ لَوۡ کُنَّا صٰدِقِیۡنَ ﴿۱۷﴾
17. They said: ‘Our father! We had gone racing with one another and left Yusuf (Joseph) with our belongings, and the wolf ate him. And you will not believe us though we are telling the truth.’
قالوا يا أبانا إنا ذهبنا نستبق وتركنا يوسف عند متاعنا فأكله الذئب وما أنت بمؤمن لنا ولو كنا صادقين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 17)
وَ جَآءُوۡ عَلٰی قَمِیۡصِہٖ بِدَمٍ کَذِبٍ ؕ قَالَ بَلۡ سَوَّلَتۡ لَکُمۡ اَنۡفُسُکُمۡ اَمۡرًا ؕ فَصَبۡرٌ جَمِیۡلٌ ؕ وَ اللّٰہُ الۡمُسۡتَعَانُ عَلٰی مَا تَصِفُوۡنَ ﴿۱۸﴾
18. Then they produced his shirt (stained) with false blood. He said: ‘Rather your (sinful) souls have seduced you to this (evil) matter. Yet patience is graceful. And Allah is the One Whose help is sought against what you allege.’
وجآؤوا على قميصه بدم كذب قال بل سولت لكم أنفسكم أمرا فصبر جميل والله المستعان على ما تصفون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 18)
وَ جَآءَتۡ سَیَّارَۃٌ فَاَرۡسَلُوۡا وَارِدَہُمۡ فَاَدۡلٰی دَلۡوَہٗ ؕ قَالَ یٰبُشۡرٰی ہٰذَا غُلٰمٌ ؕ وَ اَسَرُّوۡہُ بِضَاعَۃً ؕ وَ اللّٰہُ عَلِیۡمٌۢ بِمَا یَعۡمَلُوۡنَ ﴿۱۹﴾
19. Then a caravan came along, and they sent their water carrier, who lowered his bucket (into the well). ‘Great news!’ He said, ‘There is a young boy!’ So they hid him as (a piece of) merchandise. And Allah was All-Knowing of what they were doing.
وجاءت سيارة فأرسلوا واردهم فأدلى دلوه قال يا بشرى هـذا غلام وأسروه بضاعة والله عليم بما يعملون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 19)
وَ شَرَوۡہُ بِثَمَنٍۭ بَخۡسٍ دَرَاہِمَ مَعۡدُوۡدَۃٍ ۚ وَ کَانُوۡا فِیۡہِ مِنَ الزَّاہِدِیۡنَ ﴿٪۲۰﴾
20. And they (Joseph’s brothers) sold him (to the travellers) for a low price, just a few silver coins—because they were not interested in (buying) him.
وشروه بثمن بخس دراهم معدودة وكانوا فيه من الزاهدين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 20)
وَ قَالَ الَّذِی اشۡتَرٰىہُ مِنۡ مِّصۡرَ لِامۡرَاَتِہٖۤ اَکۡرِمِیۡ مَثۡوٰىہُ عَسٰۤی اَنۡ یَّنۡفَعَنَاۤ اَوۡ نَتَّخِذَہٗ وَلَدًا ؕ وَ کَذٰلِکَ مَکَّنَّا لِیُوۡسُفَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ ۫ وَ لِنُعَلِّمَہٗ مِنۡ تَاۡوِیۡلِ الۡاَحَادِیۡثِ ؕ وَ اللّٰہُ غَالِبٌ عَلٰۤی اَمۡرِہٖ وَ لٰکِنَّ اَکۡثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۲۱﴾
21. The man from Egypt (Potiphar, the chief minister of Egypt), who had bought him, said to his wife (Zulaykha): ‘Make his stay honourable. He could be useful to us, or we could adopt him as a son.’ That is how We established Yusuf (Joseph) in the land (of Egypt) so that We might teach him the interpretation of dreams. And Allah has (complete) control over His affairs, but most people do not know.
وقال الذي اشتراه من مصر لامرأته أكرمي مثواه عسى أن ينفعنا أو نتخذه ولدا وكذلك مكنا ليوسف في الأرض ولنعلمه من تأويل الأحاديث والله غالب على أمره ولـكن أكثر الناس لا يعلمون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 21)
وَ لَمَّا بَلَغَ اَشُدَّہٗۤ اٰتَیۡنٰہُ حُکۡمًا وَّ عِلۡمًا ؕ وَ کَذٰلِکَ نَجۡزِی الۡمُحۡسِنِیۡنَ ﴿۲۲﴾
22. When he reached his age of maturity, We gave him wisdom and knowledge. And in this way do We reward the virtuously excellent.
ولما بلغ أشده آتيناه حكما وعلما وكذلك نجزي المحسنين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 22)
وَ رَاوَدَتۡہُ الَّتِیۡ ہُوَ فِیۡ بَیۡتِہَا عَنۡ نَّفۡسِہٖ وَ غَلَّقَتِ الۡاَبۡوَابَ وَ قَالَتۡ ہَیۡتَ لَکَ ؕ قَالَ مَعَاذَ اللّٰہِ اِنَّہٗ رَبِّیۡۤ اَحۡسَنَ مَثۡوَایَ ؕ اِنَّہٗ لَا یُفۡلِحُ الظّٰلِمُوۡنَ ﴿۲۳﴾
23. And the lady (Zulaykha) in whose house he was living demanded him to surrender himself (to her desire). She locked the doors and said: ‘Come forward quickly!’ He said: ‘Allah be my refuge! Indeed, he (i.e. your husband) is my master. He has kept me in a very respectable manner. Indeed, the wrongdoers do not prosper.’
وراودته التي هو في بيتها عن نفسه وغلقت الأبواب وقالت هيت لك قال معاذ الله إنه ربي أحسن مثواي إنه لا يفلح الظالمون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 23)
وَ لَقَدۡ ہَمَّتۡ بِہٖ ۚ وَ ہَمَّ بِہَا لَوۡ لَاۤ اَنۡ رَّاٰ بُرۡہَانَ رَبِّہٖ ؕ کَذٰلِکَ لِنَصۡرِفَ عَنۡہُ السُّوۡٓءَ وَ الۡفَحۡشَآءَ ؕ اِنَّہٗ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا الۡمُخۡلَصِیۡنَ ﴿۲۴﴾
24. She (Zulaykha) certainly lusted for him, and he also might have inclined towards her if he had not seen the manifest evidence of his Lord.* We did this to keep evil and indecency away from him. He was indeed one of Our chosen servants.
* It may also mean: ‘He might have inclined towards repelling her by force if he had not seen the manifest sign of his Lord.’ Had he reacted physically in his defence, it was likely that his shirt would have been torn from the front in the struggle, later causing him trouble by serving as evidence against him. So Allah’s sign stopped him from using force.
ولقد همت به وهم بها لولا أن رأى برهان ربه كذلك لنصرف عنه السوء والفحشاء إنه من عبادنا المخلصين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 24)
وَ اسۡتَبَقَا الۡبَابَ وَ قَدَّتۡ قَمِیۡصَہٗ مِنۡ دُبُرٍ وَّ اَلۡفَیَا سَیِّدَہَا لَدَا الۡبَابِ ؕ قَالَتۡ مَا جَزَآءُ مَنۡ اَرَادَ بِاَہۡلِکَ سُوۡٓءًا اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ یُّسۡجَنَ اَوۡ عَذَابٌ اَلِیۡمٌ ﴿۲۵﴾
25. They raced to the door while she tore his shirt from behind. And they encountered her husband (the ‘Aziz of Egypt) at the door. She said: ‘What should be the punishment for someone who intends evil for your wife, except being imprisoned or a painful punishment?’
واستبقا الباب وقدت قميصه من دبر وألفيا سيدها لدى الباب قالت ما جزاء من أراد بأهلك سوءا إلا أن يسجن أو عذاب أليم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 25)
قَالَ ہِیَ رَاوَدَتۡنِیۡ عَنۡ نَّفۡسِیۡ وَ شَہِدَ شَاہِدٌ مِّنۡ اَہۡلِہَا ۚ اِنۡ کَانَ قَمِیۡصُہٗ قُدَّ مِنۡ قُبُلٍ فَصَدَقَتۡ وَ ہُوَ مِنَ الۡکٰذِبِیۡنَ ﴿۲۶﴾
26. He (Yusuf) said: ‘She is the one who demanded me to surrender myself (to her desire).’ Then a witness from her family testified, (saying:) ‘If his shirt is torn from the front, then she is telling the truth, and he is among the liars.
قال هي راودتني عن نفسي وشهد شاهد من أهلها إن كان قميصه قد من قبل فصدقت وهو من الكاذبين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 26)
فَلَمَّا رَاٰ قَمِیۡصَہٗ قُدَّ مِنۡ دُبُرٍ قَالَ اِنَّہٗ مِنۡ کَیۡدِکُنَّ ؕ اِنَّ کَیۡدَکُنَّ عَظِیۡمٌ ﴿۲۸﴾
28. So, when he (the ‘Aziz of Egypt) saw his shirt torn from behind, he said: ‘Surely this is among the (cunning) schemes of you (women)! Your scheming is indeed very smart.
فلما رأى قميصه قد من دبر قال إنه من كيدكن إن كيدكن عظيم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 28)
یُوۡسُفُ اَعۡرِضۡ عَنۡ ہٰذَا ٜ وَ اسۡتَغۡفِرِیۡ لِذَنۡۢبِکِ ۚۖ اِنَّکِ کُنۡتِ مِنَ الۡخٰطِئِیۡنَ ﴿٪۲۹﴾
29. Yusuf (Joseph)! Just forget about this matter. And (O Zulaykha!) you seek forgiveness for your sin. Surely, you are among those at fault.’
يوسف أعرض عن هـذا واستغفري لذنبك إنك كنت من الخاطئين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 29)
وَ قَالَ نِسۡوَۃٌ فِی الۡمَدِیۡنَۃِ امۡرَاَتُ الۡعَزِیۡزِ تُرَاوِدُ فَتٰىہَا عَنۡ نَّفۡسِہٖ ۚ قَدۡ شَغَفَہَا حُبًّا ؕ اِنَّا لَنَرٰىہَا فِیۡ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِیۡنٍ ﴿۳۰﴾
30. Some women of the town said: ‘The chief minister’s wife has demanded her slave-boy to surrender himself (to her desire). He has captivated her (heart) with (his) love. Indeed, we see her in clear error.’
وقال نسوة في المدينة امرأة العزيز تراود فتاها عن نفسه قد شغفها حبا إنا لنراها في ضلال مبين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 30)
فَلَمَّا سَمِعَتۡ بِمَکۡرِہِنَّ اَرۡسَلَتۡ اِلَیۡہِنَّ وَ اَعۡتَدَتۡ لَہُنَّ مُتَّکَاً وَّ اٰتَتۡ کُلَّ وَاحِدَۃٍ مِّنۡہُنَّ سِکِّیۡنًا وَّ قَالَتِ اخۡرُجۡ عَلَیۡہِنَّ ۚ فَلَمَّا رَاَیۡنَہٗۤ اَکۡبَرۡنَہٗ وَ قَطَّعۡنَ اَیۡدِیَہُنَّ وَ قُلۡنَ حَاشَ لِلّٰہِ مَا ہٰذَا بَشَرًا ؕ اِنۡ ہٰذَاۤ اِلَّا مَلَکٌ کَرِیۡمٌ ﴿۳۱﴾
31. So when she heard about their malicious whispers, she sent for them, and prepared a banquet for them, and gave each of them a knife and said (to Yusuf): ‘Come out before them.’ So when they saw him, they exalted him and cut their hands (instead of the fruit in awe of his beauty). They (spontaneously) said: ‘Allah be praised! This is not a human. This is but a noble angel!’
فلما سمعت بمكرهن أرسلت إليهن وأعتدت لهن متكأ وآتت كل واحدة منهن سكينا وقالت اخرج عليهن فلما رأينه أكبرنه وقطعن أيديهن وقلن حاش لله ما هـذا بشرا إن هـذا إلا ملك كريم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 31)
قَالَتۡ فَذٰلِکُنَّ الَّذِیۡ لُمۡتُنَّنِیۡ فِیۡہِ ؕ وَ لَقَدۡ رَاوَدۡتُّہٗ عَنۡ نَّفۡسِہٖ فَاسۡتَعۡصَمَ ؕ وَ لَئِنۡ لَّمۡ یَفۡعَلۡ مَاۤ اٰمُرُہٗ لَیُسۡجَنَنَّ وَ لَیَکُوۡنًا مِّنَ الصّٰغِرِیۡنَ ﴿۳۲﴾
32. She said: ‘That’s the one you blamed me for. Certainly, I demanded him to surrender himself (to my desire), but he remained chaste. However, if he does not do what I tell him (to do), he shall be imprisoned, and he will be among the disgraceful.’
قالت فذلكن الذي لمتنني فيه ولقد راودته عن نفسه فاستعصم ولئن لم يفعل ما آمره ليسجنن وليكونا من الصاغرين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 32)
قَالَ رَبِّ السِّجۡنُ اَحَبُّ اِلَیَّ مِمَّا یَدۡعُوۡنَنِیۡۤ اِلَیۡہِ ۚ وَ اِلَّا تَصۡرِفۡ عَنِّیۡ کَیۡدَہُنَّ اَصۡبُ اِلَیۡہِنَّ وَ اَکُنۡ مِّنَ الۡجٰہِلِیۡنَ ﴿۳۳﴾
33. He said: ‘My Lord! Prison is dearer to me than what they call me to do.’ (Then he turned to Allah in humility, seeking His refuge, saying:) ‘If You do not turn their schemes away from me (then without Your protection), I might incline towards them and become among the ignorant.’
قال رب السجن أحب إلي مما يدعونني إليه وإلا تصرف عني كيدهن أصب إليهن وأكن من الجاهلين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 33)
وَ دَخَلَ مَعَہُ السِّجۡنَ فَتَیٰنِ ؕ قَالَ اَحَدُہُمَاۤ اِنِّیۡۤ اَرٰىنِیۡۤ اَعۡصِرُ خَمۡرًا ۚ وَ قَالَ الۡاٰخَرُ اِنِّیۡۤ اَرٰىنِیۡۤ اَحۡمِلُ فَوۡقَ رَاۡسِیۡ خُبۡزًا تَاۡکُلُ الطَّیۡرُ مِنۡہُ ؕ نَبِّئۡنَا بِتَاۡوِیۡلِہٖ ۚ اِنَّا نَرٰىکَ مِنَ الۡمُحۡسِنِیۡنَ ﴿۳۶﴾
36. And two young men entered the prison with him. One of them said: ‘I saw myself (in a dream) pressing wine (from grapes).’ The other said: ‘I saw myself carrying bread on my head, of which the birds were eating.’ ‘(Joseph!) Inform us of its interpretation,’ (they said:) ‘Surely, we see you among the virtuously excellent.’
ودخل معه السجن فتيان قال أحدهمآ إني أراني أعصر خمرا وقال الآخر إني أراني أحمل فوق رأسي خبزا تأكل الطير منه نبئنا بتأويله إنا نراك من المحسنين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 36)
قَالَ لَا یَاۡتِیۡکُمَا طَعَامٌ تُرۡزَقٰنِہٖۤ اِلَّا نَبَّاۡتُکُمَا بِتَاۡوِیۡلِہٖ قَبۡلَ اَنۡ یَّاۡتِیَکُمَا ؕ ذٰلِکُمَا مِمَّا عَلَّمَنِیۡ رَبِّیۡ ؕ اِنِّیۡ تَرَکۡتُ مِلَّۃَ قَوۡمٍ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِاللّٰہِ وَ ہُمۡ بِالۡاٰخِرَۃِ ہُمۡ کٰفِرُوۡنَ ﴿۳۷﴾
37. He said: ‘Not a single meal served to you will reach you, but I will inform you about its (detailed) description before it comes to you. That is among the things my Lord has taught me. Indeed, I have renounced the faith of (those) people who do not believe in Allah and are (also) disbelievers in the Hereafter.
قال لا يأتيكما طعام ترزقانه إلا نبأتكما بتأويله قبل أن يأتيكما ذلكما مما علمني ربي إني تركت ملة قوم لا يؤمنون بالله وهم بالآخرة هم كافرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 37)
وَ اتَّبَعۡتُ مِلَّۃَ اٰبَآءِیۡۤ اِبۡرٰہِیۡمَ وَ اِسۡحٰقَ وَ یَعۡقُوۡبَ ؕ مَا کَانَ لَنَاۤ اَنۡ نُّشۡرِکَ بِاللّٰہِ مِنۡ شَیۡءٍ ؕ ذٰلِکَ مِنۡ فَضۡلِ اللّٰہِ عَلَیۡنَا وَ عَلَی النَّاسِ وَ لٰکِنَّ اَکۡثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا یَشۡکُرُوۡنَ ﴿۳۸﴾
38. Instead, I follow the faith of my fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham), Ishaq (Isaac) and Ya‘qub (Jacob). And it is not for us to ascribe any partners to Allah. That is by Allah’s grace upon us and upon all humankind, but most people do not give thanks.
واتبعت ملة آبآئـي إبراهيم وإسحق ويعقوب ما كان لنا أن نشرك بالله من شيء ذلك من فضل الله علينا وعلى الناس ولـكن أكثر الناس لا يشكرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 38)
مَا تَعۡبُدُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖۤ اِلَّاۤ اَسۡمَآءً سَمَّیۡتُمُوۡہَاۤ اَنۡتُمۡ وَ اٰبَآؤُکُمۡ مَّاۤ اَنۡزَلَ اللّٰہُ بِہَا مِنۡ سُلۡطٰنٍ ؕ اِنِ الۡحُکۡمُ اِلَّا لِلّٰہِ ؕ اَمَرَ اَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوۡۤا اِلَّاۤ اِیَّاہُ ؕ ذٰلِکَ الدِّیۡنُ الۡقَیِّمُ وَ لٰکِنَّ اَکۡثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۴۰﴾
40. All those (whom) you worship besides Him are only names you and your fathers have coined; Allah has not sent down any authority for them. Authority belongs to Allah alone. He has commanded that you shall worship none but Him. That is the right religion. But most people do not know.
ما تعبدون من دونه إلا أسماء سميتموها أنتم وآبآؤكم ما أنزل الله بها من سلطان إن الحكم إلا لله أمر ألا تعبدوا إلا إياه ذلك الدين القيم ولـكن أكثر الناس لا يعلمون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 40)
یٰصَاحِبَیِ السِّجۡنِ اَمَّاۤ اَحَدُ کُمَا فَیَسۡقِیۡ رَبَّہٗ خَمۡرًا ۚ وَ اَمَّا الۡاٰخَرُ فَیُصۡلَبُ فَتَاۡکُلُ الطَّیۡرُ مِنۡ رَّاۡسِہٖ ؕ قُضِیَ الۡاَمۡرُ الَّذِیۡ فِیۡہِ تَسۡتَفۡتِیٰنِ ﴿ؕ۴۱﴾
41. O my fellow prisoners! As for one of you, he will serve wine to his master (i.e. the king of Egypt). As for the other, he will be crucified, and the birds will eat from his head. The matter about which you inquired has been (already) decided.’
يا صاحبي السجن أما أحدكما فيسقي ربه خمرا وأما الآخر فيصلب فتأكل الطير من رأسه قضي الأمر الذي فيه تستفتيان
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 41)
وَ قَالَ لِلَّذِیۡ ظَنَّ اَنَّہٗ نَاجٍ مِّنۡہُمَا اذۡکُرۡنِیۡ عِنۡدَ رَبِّکَ ۫ فَاَنۡسٰہُ الشَّیۡطٰنُ ذِکۡرَ رَبِّہٖ فَلَبِثَ فِی السِّجۡنِ بِضۡعَ سِنِیۡنَ ﴿ؕ٪۴۲﴾
42. He told the one he thought would be released from among the two: ‘Mention me to your master.’ But Satan made him forget to mention him to his master. So, he remained in prison for several years.
وقال للذي ظن أنه ناج منهما اذكرني عند ربك فأنساه الشيطان ذكر ربه فلبث في السجن بضع سنين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 42)
وَ قَالَ الۡمَلِکُ اِنِّیۡۤ اَرٰی سَبۡعَ بَقَرٰتٍ سِمَانٍ یَّاۡکُلُہُنَّ سَبۡعٌ عِجَافٌ وَّ سَبۡعَ سُنۡۢبُلٰتٍ خُضۡرٍ وَّ اُخَرَ یٰبِسٰتٍ ؕ یٰۤاَیُّہَا الۡمَلَاُ اَفۡتُوۡنِیۡ فِیۡ رُءۡیَایَ اِنۡ کُنۡتُمۡ لِلرُّءۡیَا تَعۡبُرُوۡنَ ﴿۴۳﴾
43. And (one day) the king said: ‘I saw (in a dream) seven fat cows, and that seven skinny ones were eating them. Moreover, (I saw) seven green ears (of corn) and (seven) others (that were) dry. O chiefs (of my council)! Give me your opinion on my dream if you can interpret dreams.’
وقال الملك إني أرى سبع بقرات سمان يأكلهن سبع عجاف وسبع سنبلات خضر وأخر يابسات يا أيها الملأ أفتوني في رؤياي إن كنتم للرؤيا تعبرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 43)
وَ قَالَ الَّذِیۡ نَجَا مِنۡہُمَا وَ ادَّکَرَ بَعۡدَ اُمَّۃٍ اَنَا اُنَبِّئُکُمۡ بِتَاۡوِیۡلِہٖ فَاَرۡسِلُوۡنِ ﴿۴۵﴾
45. Said one of the two (prisoners) who was released, remembering (Joseph’s words) after a long time: ‘I will inform you of its interpretation, so let me go (to meet Joseph in prison).’
وقال الذي نجا منهما وادكر بعد أمة أنا أنبئكم بتأويله فأرسلون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 45)
یُوۡسُفُ اَیُّہَا الصِّدِّیۡقُ اَفۡتِنَا فِیۡ سَبۡعِ بَقَرٰتٍ سِمَانٍ یَّاۡکُلُہُنَّ سَبۡعٌ عِجَافٌ وَّ سَبۡعِ سُنۡۢبُلٰتٍ خُضۡرٍ وَّ اُخَرَ یٰبِسٰتٍ ۙ لَّعَلِّیۡۤ اَرۡجِعُ اِلَی النَّاسِ لَعَلَّہُمۡ یَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۴۶﴾
46. (Reaching the prison, he said:) ‘Yusuf (Joseph)! O truthful one! Interpret for us (the dream of) seven fat cows that seven skinny ones are eating them. Also, seven green ears of corn and (seven) others dry so that I may return to the people. Perhaps they may know (the truth of the matter).’
يوسف أيها الصديق أفتنا في سبع بقرات سمان يأكلهن سبع عجاف وسبع سنبلات خضر وأخر يابسات لعلي أرجع إلى الناس لعلهم يعلمون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 46)
قَالَ تَزۡرَعُوۡنَ سَبۡعَ سِنِیۡنَ دَاَبًا ۚ فَمَا حَصَدۡتُّمۡ فَذَرُوۡہُ فِیۡ سُنۡۢبُلِہٖۤ اِلَّا قَلِیۡلًا مِّمَّا تَاۡکُلُوۡنَ ﴿۴۷﴾
47. He said: ‘You shall sow for seven consecutive years as usual. Then leave whatever (grain) you reap in its ear (as storage), apart from the little you eat.
قال تزرعون سبع سنين دأبا فما حصدتم فذروه في سنبله إلا قليلا مما تأكلون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 47)
ثُمَّ یَاۡتِیۡ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ ذٰلِکَ سَبۡعٌ شِدَادٌ یَّاۡکُلۡنَ مَا قَدَّمۡتُمۡ لَہُنَّ اِلَّا قَلِیۡلًا مِّمَّا تُحۡصِنُوۡنَ ﴿۴۸﴾
48. Then after that, there shall come seven hard (years of drought) which will consume whatever you have stored in advance for them, except a little which you have preserved (for seed).
ثم يأتي من بعد ذلك سبع شداد يأكلن ما قدمتم لهن إلا قليلا مما تحصنون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 48)
ثُمَّ یَاۡتِیۡ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ ذٰلِکَ عَامٌ فِیۡہِ یُغَاثُ النَّاسُ وَ فِیۡہِ یَعۡصِرُوۡنَ ﴿٪۴۹﴾
49. Then, after that, there will come a year in which people will be granted relief (i.e. abundant rain), and people will press (wines, oils and juices).’
ثم يأتي من بعد ذلك عام فيه يغاث الناس وفيه يعصرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 49)
وَ قَالَ الۡمَلِکُ ائۡتُوۡنِیۡ بِہٖ ۚ فَلَمَّا جَآءَہُ الرَّسُوۡلُ قَالَ ارۡجِعۡ اِلٰی رَبِّکَ فَسۡـَٔلۡہُ مَا بَالُ النِّسۡوَۃِ الّٰتِیۡ قَطَّعۡنَ اَیۡدِیَہُنَّ ؕ اِنَّ رَبِّیۡ بِکَیۡدِہِنَّ عَلِیۡمٌ ﴿۵۰﴾
50. The king said (hearing this interpretation): ‘Bring him to me.’ So when the envoy (of the king) came to him, he said: ‘Go back to your master and ask him: What happened to those women who cut their hands? My Lord is indeed All-Knowing of their scheme.’
وقال الملك ائتوني به فلما جاءه الرسول قال ارجع إلى ربك فاسأله ما بال النسوة اللاتي قطعن أيديهن إن ربي بكيدهن عليم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 50)
قَالَ مَا خَطۡبُکُنَّ اِذۡ رَاوَدۡتُّنَّ یُوۡسُفَ عَنۡ نَّفۡسِہٖ ؕ قُلۡنَ حَاشَ لِلّٰہِ مَا عَلِمۡنَا عَلَیۡہِ مِنۡ سُوۡٓءٍ ؕ قَالَتِ امۡرَاَتُ الۡعَزِیۡزِ الۡـٰٔنَ حَصۡحَصَ الۡحَقُّ ۫ اَنَا رَاوَدۡتُّہٗ عَنۡ نَّفۡسِہٖ وَ اِنَّہٗ لَمِنَ الصّٰدِقِیۡنَ ﴿۵۱﴾
51. The king said (to the women, including Zulaykha): ‘What was your business when you sought Yusuf (Joseph) to surrender himself?’ They said: ‘Allah forbid! We know nothing bad about him.’ The chief minister’s wife (Zulaykha) said: ‘Now the truth has become evident. I sought him to surrender himself (to my desire), and he is most surely among the truthful.’
قال ما خطبكن إذ راودتن يوسف عن نفسه قلن حاش لله ما علمنا عليه من سوء قالت امرأة العزيز الآن حصحص الحق أنا راودته عن نفسه وإنه لمن الصادقين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 51)
ذٰلِکَ لِیَعۡلَمَ اَنِّیۡ لَمۡ اَخُنۡہُ بِالۡغَیۡبِ وَ اَنَّ اللّٰہَ لَا یَہۡدِیۡ کَیۡدَ الۡخَآئِنِیۡنَ ﴿۵۲﴾
52. (Joseph said:) ‘This was (the purpose of the inquiry) so that he (the ‘Aziz of Egypt) should know that I did not betray him in his absence. And indeed, Allah does not guide the scheming of the treacherous.
ذلك ليعلم أني لم أخنه بالغيب وأن الله لا يهدي كيد الخائنين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 52)
وَ مَاۤ اُبَرِّیٴُ نَفۡسِیۡ ۚ اِنَّ النَّفۡسَ لَاَمَّارَۃٌۢ بِالسُّوۡٓءِ اِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّیۡ ؕ اِنَّ رَبِّیۡ غَفُوۡرٌ رَّحِیۡمٌ ﴿۵۳﴾
53. And I do not absolve myself, for the (lower) self strongly commands to evil, except to whom my Lord shows mercy. Indeed, my Lord is Most-Forgiving, All-Merciful.’
وما أبرىء نفسي إن النفس لأمارة بالسوء إلا ما رحم ربي إن ربي غفور رحيم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 53)
وَ قَالَ الۡمَلِکُ ائۡتُوۡنِیۡ بِہٖۤ اَسۡتَخۡلِصۡہُ لِنَفۡسِیۡ ۚ فَلَمَّا کَلَّمَہٗ قَالَ اِنَّکَ الۡیَوۡمَ لَدَیۡنَا مَکِیۡنٌ اَمِیۡنٌ ﴿۵۴﴾
54. And the king said: ‘Bring him to me. I will select him exclusively for myself.’ Then, once he had spoken to him, he said: ‘Indeed, from this day on, you will have a high position of honour and trust with us.’
وقال الملك ائتوني به أستخلصه لنفسي فلما كلمه قال إنك اليوم لدينا مكين أمين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 54)
وَ کَذٰلِکَ مَکَّنَّا لِیُوۡسُفَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ ۚ یَتَبَوَّاُ مِنۡہَا حَیۡثُ یَشَآءُ ؕ نُصِیۡبُ بِرَحۡمَتِنَا مَنۡ نَّشَآءُ وَ لَا نُضِیۡعُ اَجۡرَ الۡمُحۡسِنِیۡنَ ﴿۵۶﴾
56. That is how We established Yusuf (Joseph) in the land that he may settle wherever he wished. We confer Our mercy upon whomsoever We please. And We do not waste the reward of the virtuously excellent.
وكذلك مكنا ليوسف في الأرض يتبوأ منها حيث يشاء نصيب برحمتنا من نشاء ولا نضيع أجر المحسنين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 56)
وَ جَآءَ اِخۡوَۃُ یُوۡسُفَ فَدَخَلُوۡا عَلَیۡہِ فَعَرَفَہُمۡ وَ ہُمۡ لَہٗ مُنۡکِرُوۡنَ ﴿۵۸﴾
58. (During the days of famine) Yusuf’s brothers came (to Egypt) and entered his presence. And he recognised them; however, they did not recognise him.
وجاء إخوة يوسف فدخلوا عليه فعرفهم وهم له منكرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 58)
وَ لَمَّا جَہَّزَہُمۡ بِجَہَازِہِمۡ قَالَ ائۡتُوۡنِیۡ بِاَخٍ لَّکُمۡ مِّنۡ اَبِیۡکُمۡ ۚ اَلَا تَرَوۡنَ اَنِّیۡۤ اُوۡفِی الۡکَیۡلَ وَ اَنَا خَیۡرُ الۡمُنۡزِلِیۡنَ ﴿۵۹﴾
59. When he had provided them with their supplies, he said: ‘Bring me your (half) brother from your father. Do you not see that I give full measure, and I am the best of hosts?
ولما جهزهم بجهازهم قال ائتوني بأخ لكم من أبيكم ألا ترون أني أوفي الكيل وأنا خير المنـزلين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 59)
وَ قَالَ لِفِتۡیٰنِہِ اجۡعَلُوۡا بِضَاعَتَہُمۡ فِیۡ رِحَالِہِمۡ لَعَلَّہُمۡ یَعۡرِفُوۡنَہَاۤ اِذَا انۡقَلَبُوۡۤا اِلٰۤی اَہۡلِہِمۡ لَعَلَّہُمۡ یَرۡجِعُوۡنَ ﴿۶۲﴾
62. He said to his servants: ‘Put their money (or traded goods back) into their saddlebags; perhaps they will recognise them when they return to their family. Hopefully, they will come back (again).’
وقال لفتيانه اجعلوا بضاعتهم في رحالهم لعلهم يعرفونها إذا انقلبوا إلى أهلهم لعلهم يرجعون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 62)
فَلَمَّا رَجَعُوۡۤا اِلٰۤی اَبِیۡہِمۡ قَالُوۡا یٰۤاَبَانَا مُنِعَ مِنَّا الۡکَیۡلُ فَاَرۡسِلۡ مَعَنَاۤ اَخَانَا نَکۡتَلۡ وَ اِنَّا لَہٗ لَحٰفِظُوۡنَ ﴿۶۳﴾
63. So, when they returned to their father, they said: ‘Our father! We have been denied the (further) measure of corn. Send our brother along with us so we can obtain the measure (again). And we shall most surely be his (careful) guardians.’
فلما رجعوا إلى أبيهم قالوا يا أبانا منع منا الكيل فأرسل معنا أخانا نكتل وإنا له لحافظون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 63)
قَالَ ہَلۡ اٰمَنُکُمۡ عَلَیۡہِ اِلَّا کَمَاۤ اَمِنۡتُکُمۡ عَلٰۤی اَخِیۡہِ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ ؕ فَاللّٰہُ خَیۡرٌ حٰفِظًا ۪ وَّ ہُوَ اَرۡحَمُ الرّٰحِمِیۡنَ ﴿۶۴﴾
64. He said: ‘Should I entrust you with him, just as I entrusted you with his brother (Joseph)? Yet Allah is the Best Protector. And He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.’
قال هل آمنكم عليه إلا كما أمنتكم على أخيه من قبل فالله خير حافظا وهو أرحم الراحمين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 64)
وَ لَمَّا فَتَحُوۡا مَتَاعَہُمۡ وَجَدُوۡا بِضَاعَتَہُمۡ رُدَّتۡ اِلَیۡہِمۡ ؕ قَالُوۡا یٰۤاَبَانَا مَا نَبۡغِیۡ ؕ ہٰذِہٖ بِضَاعَتُنَا رُدَّتۡ اِلَیۡنَا ۚ وَ نَمِیۡرُ اَہۡلَنَا وَ نَحۡفَظُ اَخَانَا وَ نَزۡدَادُ کَیۡلَ بَعِیۡرٍ ؕ ذٰلِکَ کَیۡلٌ یَّسِیۡرٌ ﴿۶۵﴾
65. When they opened their baggage, they found their money had been returned to them. They said: ‘Our father! What (more) do we want? This is our money returned to us! Now, we will get (more) provisions for our family and take good care of our brother. And we will add another camel load of ration. That (additional) ration would be easy (to get).*
* It may also mean: ‘The load we have already bought is little.’
ولما فتحوا متاعهم وجدوا بضاعتهم ردت إليهم قالوا يا أبانا ما نبغي هـذه بضاعتنا ردت إلينا ونمير أهلنا ونحفظ أخانا ونزداد كيل بعير ذلك كيل يسير
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 65)
قَالَ لَنۡ اُرۡسِلَہٗ مَعَکُمۡ حَتّٰی تُؤۡتُوۡنِ مَوۡثِقًا مِّنَ اللّٰہِ لَتَاۡتُنَّنِیۡ بِہٖۤ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ یُّحَاطَ بِکُمۡ ۚ فَلَمَّاۤ اٰتَوۡہُ مَوۡثِقَہُمۡ قَالَ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی مَا نَقُوۡلُ وَکِیۡلٌ ﴿۶۶﴾
66. He said: ‘I will not send him along with you until you give me a solemn pledge in Allah’s Name that you will surely bring him back to me unless you are surrounded (to the point of death). When they had given him their solemn pledge, he said: ‘Allah is Guardian over what we say.’
قال لن أرسله معكم حتى تؤتون موثقا من الله لتأتنني به إلا أن يحاط بكم فلما آتوه موثقهم قال الله على ما نقول وكيل
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 66)
وَ قَالَ یٰبَنِیَّ لَا تَدۡخُلُوۡا مِنۡۢ بَابٍ وَّاحِدٍ وَّ ادۡخُلُوۡا مِنۡ اَبۡوَابٍ مُّتَفَرِّقَۃٍ ؕ وَ مَاۤ اُغۡنِیۡ عَنۡکُمۡ مِّنَ اللّٰہِ مِنۡ شَیۡءٍ ؕ اِنِ الۡحُکۡمُ اِلَّا لِلّٰہِ ؕ عَلَیۡہِ تَوَکَّلۡتُ ۚ وَ عَلَیۡہِ فَلۡیَتَوَکَّلِ الۡمُتَوَکِّلُوۡنَ ﴿۶۷﴾
67. And he said: ‘My sons! Do not enter together through one gate; rather, enter from different gates, though I cannot render you any help against (the will of) Allah. Ultimate authority belongs to Allah alone. In Him, I have put my trust. And in Him, should all trusting (people) put their trust.’
وقال يا بني لا تدخلوا من باب واحد وادخلوا من أبواب متفرقة وما أغني عنكم من الله من شيء إن الحكم إلا لله عليه توكلت وعليه فليتوكل المتوكلون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 67)
وَ لَمَّا دَخَلُوۡا مِنۡ حَیۡثُ اَمَرَہُمۡ اَبُوۡہُمۡ ؕ مَا کَانَ یُغۡنِیۡ عَنۡہُمۡ مِّنَ اللّٰہِ مِنۡ شَیۡءٍ اِلَّا حَاجَۃً فِیۡ نَفۡسِ یَعۡقُوۡبَ قَضٰہَا ؕ وَ اِنَّہٗ لَذُوۡ عِلۡمٍ لِّمَا عَلَّمۡنٰہُ وَ لٰکِنَّ اَکۡثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿٪۶۸﴾
68. And when they entered as their father had commanded them, it could not render them any help against (the will of) Allah; however, it fulfilled a wish in Ya‘qub’s heart. Indeed, he possessed the knowledge of what We had taught him. But most people do not know.
ولما دخلوا من حيث أمرهم أبوهم ما كان يغني عنهم من الله من شيء إلا حاجة في نفس يعقوب قضاها وإنه لذو علم لما علمناه ولـكن أكثر الناس لا يعلمون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 68)
وَ لَمَّا دَخَلُوۡا عَلٰی یُوۡسُفَ اٰوٰۤی اِلَیۡہِ اَخَاہُ قَالَ اِنِّیۡۤ اَنَا اَخُوۡکَ فَلَا تَبۡتَئِسۡ بِمَا کَانُوۡا یَعۡمَلُوۡنَ ﴿۶۹﴾
69. And when they entered the presence of Yusuf (Joseph), he drew his (younger) brother (Benjamin) close to him (and) said (to him quietly): ‘Indeed, I am your brother (Yusuf), therefore do not grieve for what they have been doing.’
ولما دخلوا على يوسف آوى إليه أخاه قال إني أنا أخوك فلا تبتئس بما كانوا يعملون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 69)
فَلَمَّا جَہَّزَہُمۡ بِجَہَازِہِمۡ جَعَلَ السِّقَایَۃَ فِیۡ رَحۡلِ اَخِیۡہِ ثُمَّ اَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنٌ اَیَّتُہَا الۡعِیۡرُ اِنَّکُمۡ لَسٰرِقُوۡنَ ﴿۷۰﴾
70. So when he had furnished them with their provisions, he placed the (king’s) drinking cup in his brother’s saddlebag. Then a herald called out: ‘O you men of the caravan! You are surely thieves.’
فلما جهزهم بجهازهم جعل السقاية في رحل أخيه ثم أذن مؤذن أيتها العير إنكم لسارقون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 70)
قَالُوۡا نَفۡقِدُ صُوَاعَ الۡمَلِکِ وَ لِمَنۡ جَآءَ بِہٖ حِمۡلُ بَعِیۡرٍ وَّ اَنَا بِہٖ زَعِیۡمٌ ﴿۷۲﴾
72. They (the officials of the king’s court) said: ‘We are missing the king’s goblet. Whoever brings it shall have a camel load (of corn).’ (The steward said:) ‘I shall be its guarantor.’
قالوا نفقد صواع الملك ولمن جاء به حمل بعير وأنا به زعيم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 72)
قَالُوۡا تَاللّٰہِ لَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمۡ مَّا جِئۡنَا لِنُفۡسِدَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ وَ مَا کُنَّا سٰرِقِیۡنَ ﴿۷۳﴾
73. They said: ‘By Allah! You certainly know that we did not come to cause corruption in the land, and we are not thieves.’
قالوا تالله لقد علمتم ما جئنا لنفسد في الأرض وما كنا سارقين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 73)
قَالُوۡا جَزَآؤُہٗ مَنۡ وُّجِدَ فِیۡ رَحۡلِہٖ فَہُوَ جَزَآؤُہٗ ؕ کَذٰلِکَ نَجۡزِی الظّٰلِمِیۡنَ ﴿۷۵﴾
75. They said: ‘Its penalty will be that in whoever’s saddlebag it is found, he shall give himself as its requital. That is how We punish the wrongdoers.’
قالوا جزآؤه من وجد في رحله فهو جزاؤه كذلك نجزي الظالمين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 75)
فَبَدَاَ بِاَوۡعِیَتِہِمۡ قَبۡلَ وِعَآءِ اَخِیۡہِ ثُمَّ اسۡتَخۡرَجَہَا مِنۡ وِّعَآءِ اَخِیۡہِ ؕ کَذٰلِکَ کِدۡنَا لِیُوۡسُفَ ؕ مَا کَانَ لِیَاۡخُذَ اَخَاہُ فِیۡ دِیۡنِ الۡمَلِکِ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ یَّشَآءَ اللّٰہُ ؕ نَرۡفَعُ دَرَجٰتٍ مَّنۡ نَّشَآءُ ؕ وَ فَوۡقَ کُلِّ ذِیۡ عِلۡمٍ عَلِیۡمٌ ﴿۷۶﴾
76. Then he (Yusuf) began with their bags before (opening) his brother’s bag. Then he took that (goblet) out of his brother’s bag. In this way, We devised a plan for Yusuf. He could not have held his brother under the king’s law unless Allah had so willed. We elevate in degrees whomever We please. And above every man of knowledge is one who knows better.*
* It may also mean: ‘Above every man of knowledge, there is the One Who is All-Knowing.’
فبدأ بأوعيتهم قبل وعاء أخيه ثم استخرجها من وعاء أخيه كذلك كدنا ليوسف ما كان ليأخذ أخاه في دين الملك إلا أن يشاء الله نرفع درجات من نشاء وفوق كل ذي علم عليم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 76)
قَالُوۡۤا اِنۡ یَّسۡرِقۡ فَقَدۡ سَرَقَ اَخٌ لَّہٗ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ ۚ فَاَسَرَّہَا یُوۡسُفُ فِیۡ نَفۡسِہٖ وَ لَمۡ یُبۡدِہَا لَہُمۡ ۚ قَالَ اَنۡتُمۡ شَرٌّ مَّکَانًا ۚ وَ اللّٰہُ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَا تَصِفُوۡنَ ﴿۷۷﴾
77. They said: ‘If he has stolen, (it comes as no surprise as) his full brother has also stolen before.’ So Yusuf (Joseph) kept his secret hidden in his heart and did not disclose it to them. He said (in his heart): ‘You are (still) in a worse state. And Allah knows best what you allege.’
قالوا إن يسرق فقد سرق أخ له من قبل فأسرها يوسف في نفسه ولم يبدها لهم قال أنتم شر مكانا والله أعلم بما تصفون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 77)
قَالُوۡا یٰۤاَیُّہَا الۡعَزِیۡزُ اِنَّ لَہٗۤ اَبًا شَیۡخًا کَبِیۡرًا فَخُذۡ اَحَدَنَا مَکَانَہٗ ۚ اِنَّا نَرٰىکَ مِنَ الۡمُحۡسِنِیۡنَ ﴿۷۸﴾
78. They said: ‘Respectable governor! Indeed, he has a venerable, aged father. Could you take one of us in his place? Indeed, we see you are a gracious person.’
قالوا يا أيها العزيز إن له أبا شيخا كبيرا فخذ أحدنا مكانه إنا نراك من المحسنين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 78)
قَالَ مَعَاذَ اللّٰہِ اَنۡ نَّاۡخُذَ اِلَّا مَنۡ وَّجَدۡنَا مَتَاعَنَا عِنۡدَہٗۤ ۙ اِنَّاۤ اِذًا لَّظٰلِمُوۡنَ ﴿٪۷۹﴾
79. He said: ‘Allah forbid that we should take other than the one in whose possession we found our property! For then, we should surely be wrongdoers.’
قال معاذ الله أن نأخذ إلا من وجدنا متاعنا عنده إنـآ إذا لظالمون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 79)
فَلَمَّا اسۡتَیۡـَٔسُوۡا مِنۡہُ خَلَصُوۡا نَجِیًّا ؕ قَالَ کَبِیۡرُہُمۡ اَلَمۡ تَعۡلَمُوۡۤا اَنَّ اَبَاکُمۡ قَدۡ اَخَذَ عَلَیۡکُمۡ مَّوۡثِقًا مِّنَ اللّٰہِ وَ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ مَا فَرَّطۡتُّمۡ فِیۡ یُوۡسُفَ ۚ فَلَنۡ اَبۡرَحَ الۡاَرۡضَ حَتّٰی یَاۡذَنَ لِیۡۤ اَبِیۡۤ اَوۡ یَحۡکُمَ اللّٰہُ لِیۡ ۚ وَ ہُوَ خَیۡرُ الۡحٰکِمِیۡنَ ﴿۸۰﴾
80. So when they lost hope of (convincing) him, they withdrew to consult in private. The eldest of them said: ‘Do you not know that your father has taken a solemn pledge from you in Allah’s Name, and previously you have been negligent in your duty towards Yusuf (Joseph)? Therefore, I will not leave this land until my father grants me permission or Allah decides for me (something else). And He is the best of judges.
فلما استيأسوا منه خلصوا نجيا قال كبيرهم ألم تعلموا أن أباكم قد أخذ عليكم موثقا من الله ومن قبل ما فرطتم في يوسف فلن أبرح الأرض حتى يأذن لي أبي أو يحكم الله لي وهو خير الحاكمين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 80)
اِرۡجِعُوۡۤا اِلٰۤی اَبِیۡکُمۡ فَقُوۡلُوۡا یٰۤاَبَانَاۤ اِنَّ ابۡنَکَ سَرَقَ ۚ وَ مَا شَہِدۡنَاۤ اِلَّا بِمَا عَلِمۡنَا وَ مَا کُنَّا لِلۡغَیۡبِ حٰفِظِیۡنَ ﴿۸۱﴾
81. Go back to your father and say: ‘Our father! Indeed, your son has committed theft, and we did not testify except what we knew. And we could not guard against the unforeseen.
ارجعوا إلى أبيكم فقولوا يا أبانا إن ابنك سرق وما شهدنا إلا بما علمنا وما كنا للغيب حافظين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 81)
وَ سۡـَٔلِ الۡقَرۡیَۃَ الَّتِیۡ کُنَّا فِیۡہَا وَ الۡعِیۡرَ الَّتِیۡۤ اَقۡبَلۡنَا فِیۡہَا ؕ وَ اِنَّا لَصٰدِقُوۡنَ ﴿۸۲﴾
82. So ask (the people of) the town where we were and the caravan with which we travelled. Indeed, we are truthful.’’
واسأل القرية التي كنا فيها والعير التي أقبلنا فيها وإنا لصادقون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 82)
قَالَ بَلۡ سَوَّلَتۡ لَکُمۡ اَنۡفُسُکُمۡ اَمۡرًا ؕ فَصَبۡرٌ جَمِیۡلٌ ؕ عَسَی اللّٰہُ اَنۡ یَّاۡتِـیَنِیۡ بِہِمۡ جَمِیۡعًا ؕ اِنَّہٗ ہُوَ الۡعَلِیۡمُ الۡحَکِیۡمُ ﴿۸۳﴾
83. He (Jacob) said: ‘Rather your (sinful) souls have seduced you to this (evil) matter. Yet patience is graceful. I trust that Allah will bring them (back) to me altogether. Indeed He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.’
قال بل سولت لكم أنفسكم أمرا فصبر جميل عسى الله أن يأتيني بهم جميعا إنه هو العليم الحكيم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 83)
وَ تَوَلّٰی عَنۡہُمۡ وَ قَالَ یٰۤاَسَفٰی عَلٰی یُوۡسُفَ وَ ابۡیَضَّتۡ عَیۡنٰہُ مِنَ الۡحُزۡنِ فَہُوَ کَظِیۡمٌ ﴿۸۴﴾
84. Then he turned away from them and said: ‘O my sorrow for Yusuf (Joseph)!’ And his eyes became white with grief. Yet he was controlling and hiding his emotions.
وتولى عنهم وقال يا أسفى على يوسف وابيضت عيناه من الحزن فهو كظيم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 84)
یٰبَنِیَّ اذۡہَبُوۡا فَتَحَسَّسُوۡا مِنۡ یُّوۡسُفَ وَ اَخِیۡہِ وَ لَا تَایۡـَٔسُوۡا مِنۡ رَّوۡحِ اللّٰہِ ؕ اِنَّہٗ لَا یَایۡـَٔسُ مِنۡ رَّوۡحِ اللّٰہِ اِلَّا الۡقَوۡمُ الۡکٰفِرُوۡنَ ﴿۸۷﴾
87. My sons! Go and search for Yusuf (Joseph) and his brother, and do not despair of Allah’s mercy. Indeed, none despairs of Allah’s mercy except the disbelieving people.’
يا بني اذهبوا فتحسسوا من يوسف وأخيه ولا تيأسوا من روح الله إنه لا ييأس من روح الله إلا القوم الكافرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 87)
فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوۡا عَلَیۡہِ قَالُوۡا یٰۤاَیُّہَا الۡعَزِیۡزُ مَسَّنَا وَ اَہۡلَنَا الضُّرُّ وَ جِئۡنَا بِبِضَاعَۃٍ مُّزۡجٰىۃٍ فَاَوۡفِ لَنَا الۡکَیۡلَ وَ تَصَدَّقۡ عَلَیۡنَا ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ یَجۡزِی الۡمُتَصَدِّقِیۡنَ ﴿۸۸﴾
88. So when they entered his presence (again), they said: ‘Respectable governor! Severe hardship has struck us and our family, and we have brought just a minimal amount. So grant us full measure (of corn against it) and be charitable to us. Indeed, Allah rewards the charitable.’
فلما دخلوا عليه قالوا يا أيها العزيز مسنا وأهلنا الضر وجئنا ببضاعة مزجاة فأوف لنا الكيل وتصدق علينآ إن الله يجزي المتصدقين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 88)
قَالُوۡۤا ءَاِنَّکَ لَاَنۡتَ یُوۡسُفُ ؕ قَالَ اَنَا یُوۡسُفُ وَ ہٰذَاۤ اَخِیۡ ۫ قَدۡ مَنَّ اللّٰہُ عَلَیۡنَا ؕ اِنَّہٗ مَنۡ یَّـتَّقِ وَ یَصۡبِرۡ فَاِنَّ اللّٰہَ لَا یُضِیۡعُ اَجۡرَ الۡمُحۡسِنِیۡنَ ﴿۹۰﴾
90. They said (in shock): ‘Are you truly Yusuf?’ He said: ‘(Yes,) I am Yusuf, and this is my brother (Binyamin). Surely, Allah has been gracious to us. Indeed, if one is God-conscious and patient, Allah does not waste the reward of the virtuously excellent.’
قالوا أإنك لأنت يوسف قال أنا يوسف وهـذا أخي قد من الله علينا إنه من يتق ويصبر فإن الله لا يضيع أجر المحسنين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 90)
قَالَ لَا تَثۡرِیۡبَ عَلَیۡکُمُ الۡیَوۡمَ ؕ یَغۡفِرُ اللّٰہُ لَکُمۡ ۫ وَ ہُوَ اَرۡحَمُ الرّٰحِمِیۡنَ ﴿۹۲﴾
92. Yusuf (Joseph) said: ‘There shall be no blame on you today. May Allah forgive you. And He is the Most Merciful of the merciful!’
قال لا تثريب عليكم اليوم يغفر الله لكم وهو أرحم الراحمين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 92)
اِذۡہَبُوۡا بِقَمِیۡصِیۡ ہٰذَا فَاَلۡقُوۡہُ عَلٰی وَجۡہِ اَبِیۡ یَاۡتِ بَصِیۡرًا ۚ وَ اۡتُوۡنِیۡ بِاَہۡلِکُمۡ اَجۡمَعِیۡنَ ﴿٪۹۳﴾
93. (Yusuf said to his brothers:) ‘Take this shirt of mine and place it over my father’s face; he will regain his sight. And bring your whole family to me.’
اذهبوا بقميصي هـذا فألقوه على وجه أبي يأت بصيرا وأتوني بأهلكم أجمعين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 93)
وَ لَمَّا فَصَلَتِ الۡعِیۡرُ قَالَ اَبُوۡہُمۡ اِنِّیۡ لَاَجِدُ رِیۡحَ یُوۡسُفَ لَوۡ لَاۤ اَنۡ تُفَنِّدُوۡنِ ﴿۹۴﴾
94. As the caravan set off, their father said: ‘I smell the fragrance of Yusuf if you do not think me senile.’
ولما فصلت العير قال أبوهم إني لأجد ريح يوسف لولا أن تفندون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 94)
فَلَمَّاۤ اَنۡ جَآءَ الۡبَشِیۡرُ اَلۡقٰىہُ عَلٰی وَجۡہِہٖ فَارۡتَدَّ بَصِیۡرًا ۚ قَالَ اَلَمۡ اَقُلۡ لَّکُمۡ ۚۙ اِنِّیۡۤ اَعۡلَمُ مِنَ اللّٰہِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۹۶﴾
96. When the bearer of good news arrived, he placed it (i.e. the shirt of Joseph) over his face, so he was immediately restored to sight. He said: ‘Did I not tell you that I know from Allah what you do not know?’
فلما أن جاء البشير ألقاه على وجهه فارتد بصيرا قال ألم أقل لكم إني أعلم من الله ما لا تعلمون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 96)
فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوۡا عَلٰی یُوۡسُفَ اٰوٰۤی اِلَیۡہِ اَبَوَیۡہِ وَ قَالَ ادۡخُلُوۡا مِصۡرَ اِنۡ شَآءَ اللّٰہُ اٰمِنِیۡنَ ﴿ؕ۹۹﴾
99. So when they entered the presence of Yusuf, he drew his parents close to him and said: ‘Welcome to Egypt, you will all be safe here, if Allah wills!’
فلما دخلوا على يوسف آوى إليه أبويه وقال ادخلوا مصر إن شاء الله آمنين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 99)
وَ رَفَعَ اَبَوَیۡہِ عَلَی الۡعَرۡشِ وَ خَرُّوۡا لَہٗ سُجَّدًا ۚ وَ قَالَ یٰۤاَبَتِ ہٰذَا تَاۡوِیۡلُ رُءۡیَایَ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ ۫ قَدۡ جَعَلَہَا رَبِّیۡ حَقًّا ؕ وَ قَدۡ اَحۡسَنَ بِیۡۤ اِذۡ اَخۡرَجَنِیۡ مِنَ السِّجۡنِ وَ جَآءَ بِکُمۡ مِّنَ الۡبَدۡوِ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ اَنۡ نَّزَغَ الشَّیۡطٰنُ بَیۡنِیۡ وَ بَیۡنَ اِخۡوَتِیۡ ؕ اِنَّ رَبِّیۡ لَطِیۡفٌ لِّمَا یَشَآءُ ؕ اِنَّہٗ ہُوَ الۡعَلِیۡمُ الۡحَکِیۡمُ ﴿۱۰۰﴾
100. He raised his parents to the throne, and they (all) fell before him in prostration. He said: ‘Father! This is the fulfilment of my dream, I had long ago, which my Lord has made come true. He was undoubtedly gracious to me when He brought me out of prison, and He brought you (here) from the desert after Satan had incited ill feelings between me and my brothers. Indeed, My Lord is Benevolent in what He wishes. Indeed, He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.
ورفع أبويه على العرش وخروا له سجدا وقال يا أبت هـذا تأويل رؤياي من قبل قد جعلها ربي حقا وقد أحسن بي إذ أخرجني من السجن وجاء بكم من البدو من بعد أن نزغ الشيطان بيني وبين إخوتي إن ربي لطيف لما يشاء إنه هو العليم الحكيم
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 100)
رَبِّ قَدۡ اٰتَیۡتَنِیۡ مِنَ الۡمُلۡکِ وَ عَلَّمۡتَنِیۡ مِنۡ تَاۡوِیۡلِ الۡاَحَادِیۡثِ ۚ فَاطِرَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ ۟ اَنۡتَ وَلِیّٖ فِی الدُّنۡیَا وَ الۡاٰخِرَۃِ ۚ تَوَفَّنِیۡ مُسۡلِمًا وَّ اَلۡحِقۡنِیۡ بِالصّٰلِحِیۡنَ ﴿۱۰۱﴾
101. My Lord! You have granted me a share of the kingdom and taught me the interpretation of dreams. Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Guardian in this world and in the Hereafter. Let me die in a state of total submission (to You) and join me with the righteous.’
رب قد آتيتني من الملك وعلمتني من تأويل الأحاديث فاطر السماوات والأرض أنت وليي في الدنيا والآخرة توفني مسلما وألحقني بالصالحين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 101)
ذٰلِکَ مِنۡ اَنۡۢبَآءِ الۡغَیۡبِ نُوۡحِیۡہِ اِلَیۡکَ ۚ وَ مَا کُنۡتَ لَدَیۡہِمۡ اِذۡ اَجۡمَعُوۡۤا اَمۡرَہُمۡ وَ ہُمۡ یَمۡکُرُوۡنَ ﴿۱۰۲﴾
102. (O Prophet!) These are the accounts of the Unseen, which We reveal to you. And you were not present with them when they conspired together and devised a plan (against Yusuf).
ذلك من أنباء الغيب نوحيه إليك وما كنت لديهم إذ أجمعوا أمرهم وهم يمكرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 102)
وَ کَاَیِّنۡ مِّنۡ اٰیَۃٍ فِی السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ یَمُرُّوۡنَ عَلَیۡہَا وَ ہُمۡ عَنۡہَا مُعۡرِضُوۡنَ ﴿۱۰۵﴾
105. And how many a sign is there in the heavens and the earth which they pass by, yet they turn away from them!
وكأين من آية في السماوات والأرض يمرون عليها وهم عنها معرضون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 105)
اَفَاَمِنُوۡۤا اَنۡ تَاۡتِیَہُمۡ غَاشِیَۃٌ مِّنۡ عَذَابِ اللّٰہِ اَوۡ تَاۡتِیَہُمُ السَّاعَۃُ بَغۡتَۃً وَّ ہُمۡ لَا یَشۡعُرُوۡنَ ﴿۱۰۷﴾
107. Do they feel secure that an overwhelming punishment from Allah will not come to them or that the Last Hour will not overtake them suddenly while they are unaware?
أفأمنوا أن تأتيهم غاشية من عذاب الله أو تأتيهم الساعة بغتة وهم لا يشعرون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 107)
قُلۡ ہٰذِہٖ سَبِیۡلِیۡۤ اَدۡعُوۡۤا اِلَی اللّٰہِ ۟ؔ عَلٰی بَصِیۡرَۃٍ اَنَا وَ مَنِ اتَّبَعَنِیۡ ؕ وَ سُبۡحٰنَ اللّٰہِ وَ مَاۤ اَنَا مِنَ الۡمُشۡرِکِیۡنَ ﴿۱۰۸﴾
108. Say (O Prophet): ‘This is my way. I call to Allah with clear insight, I and those who follow me. And Glory be to Allah, and I am not among those who ascribe partners (to Him).’
قل هـذه سبيلي أدعو إلى الله على بصيرة أنا ومن اتبعني وسبحان الله وما أنا من المشركين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 108)
وَ مَاۤ اَرۡسَلۡنَا مِنۡ قَبۡلِکَ اِلَّا رِجَالًا نُّوۡحِیۡۤ اِلَیۡہِمۡ مِّنۡ اَہۡلِ الۡقُرٰی ؕ اَفَلَمۡ یَسِیۡرُوۡا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَیَنۡظُرُوۡا کَیۡفَ کَانَ عَاقِبَۃُ الَّذِیۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِہِمۡ ؕ وَ لَدَارُ الۡاٰخِرَۃِ خَیۡرٌ لِّلَّذِیۡنَ اتَّقَوۡا ؕ اَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُوۡنَ ﴿۱۰۹﴾
109. And We did not send (any messenger) before you except men, to whom We revealed from among the people of the towns. Have they not travelled across the earth so that they may observe how was the end of those before them? And surely the abode of the Hereafter is better for those who are God-conscious. Do you not then understand?
وما أرسلنا من قبلك إلا رجالا نوحي إليهم من أهل القرى أفلم يسيروا في الأرض فينظروا كيف كان عاقبة الذين من قبلهم ولدار الآخرة خير للذين اتقوا أفلا تعقلون
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 109)
حَتّٰۤی اِذَا اسۡتَیۡـَٔسَ الرُّسُلُ وَ ظَنُّوۡۤا اَنَّہُمۡ قَدۡ کُذِبُوۡا جَآءَہُمۡ نَصۡرُنَا ۙ فَنُجِّیَ مَنۡ نَّشَآءُ ؕ وَلَا یُرَدُّ بَاۡسُنَا عَنِ الۡقَوۡمِ الۡمُجۡرِمِیۡنَ ﴿۱۱۰﴾
110. When the messengers lost hope (of their people accepting their message), and the (disbelieving) people thought they (the messengers) had been denied, Our help came to them (all of a sudden). And whomever We wished was saved, and Our punishment is not averted from the guilty people.
حتى إذا استيأس الرسل وظنوا أنهم قد كذبوا جاءهم نصرنا فنجي من نشاء ولا يرد بأسنا عن القوم المجرمين
(يُوْسُف، 12 : 110)
لَقَدۡ کَانَ فِیۡ قَصَصِہِمۡ عِبۡرَۃٌ لِّاُولِی الۡاَلۡبَابِ ؕ مَا کَانَ حَدِیۡثًا یُّفۡتَرٰی وَ لٰکِنۡ تَصۡدِیۡقَ الَّذِیۡ بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡہِ وَ تَفۡصِیۡلَ کُلِّ شَیۡءٍ وَّ ہُدًی وَّ رَحۡمَۃً لِّقَوۡمٍ یُّؤۡمِنُوۡنَ ﴿۱۱۱﴾٪
