157. (They are) the ones who follow the Messenger, the Prophet, untutored (by any worldly teacher)*. (He is the one) whom they find described with them in the Torah and the Injil (Gospel). He commands them whatever is good and forbids them from whatever is evil. He makes all good things lawful for them and makes all impure things unlawful for them. He relieves them from their burdens and (removes) the shackles which had bound them. So only those who believe in him, revere him, support him (in his cause) and follow the light sent down with him—it is they who will be successful.’

* The word ‘Ummi’ refers to the special status of the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him), that he did not receive any formal education from any human, nor did he study any book or scripture. He still knows far more than the entire creation through the divine knowledge bestowed upon him directly from Allah Almighty. Allah taught him directly whatever he did not know before. This word also refers to his innocence and purity, like the innocence and purity of a newborn baby, despite his raising in an idolatrous and polytheistic society.
