249. So, when Talut (Saul) set out with the troops, he said: ‘Allah will indeed test you with a river. Anyone who drinks from it will not belong to me (i.e. he shall cease to be my soldier). And whoever does not taste it will belong to me, except he who scoops up just one handful (he will be excused).’ But they all drank from it, except a few of them. So, when he and the (remaining) believers with him crossed it (i.e. the river), they said: ‘We have no strength today against Jalut (Goliath) and his troops.’ Those (believers) who were confident that they would meet Allah (on the Day of Judgement) said: ‘How often a small faction has overcome a large faction by Allah’s will! And Allah is with the patient.’
