اس کو ’سورۂ دہر‘ اور ’سورۂ الانسان‘ کے ناموں سے موسوم کیا جاتا ہے۔ اس کے اور نام بھی ہیں لیکن وہ زیادہ مشہور نہیں۔ یہ دو رکوعوں پر مشتمل ہے۔ یہ جمہور کے نزدیک مکہ مکرمہ میں نازل ہوئی۔ انسان جو آج اپنے بازو کی قوت، سازوسامان اور مال ودولت پر نازاں ہے اور اپنے خالق کو بھول چکا ہے اسے بتایا جارہا ہے کہ تو ہمیشہ سے ایسا نہ تھا بلکہ تجھے نیست سے ہست کیا گیا ہے اور تمہیں ہوش وگوش کی جو قوتیں عطا کی گئی ہیں ان کا مقصد تمہاری آزمائش ہے کہ کیا تم اللہ کے شکر گزار بندوں پر کیے جائیں گے۔

تعارف سورۃ الدھر

اس کو ’سورۂ دہر‘ اور ’سورۂ الانسان‘ کے ناموں سے موسوم کیا جاتا ہے۔ اس کے اور نام بھی ہیں لیکن وہ زیادہ مشہور نہیں۔ یہ دو رکوعوں، اکتیس آیتیں، دو صد چالیس کلموں میں اور ایک ہزار چون حروف پر مشتمل ہے۔

نزول

اس کے متعلق علماء میں شدید اختلاف ہے، بحر المحیط میں ہے کہ یہ جمہور کے نزدیک مکہ مکرمہ میں نازل ہوئی، مجاہد اور قتادہ کہتے ہیں کہ یہ مدنی ہے۔ حضرت حسن بصری، عکرمہ اور قلبی کی رائے ہے کہ یہ سورت مدنی ہے، سوائے آیت 24 کے کہ مکی ہے۔ (روح المعانی)

مضامین

انسان جو آج اپنے بازو کی قوت، سازوسامان اور مال ودولت پر نازاں ہے اور اپنے خالق کو بھول چکا ہے اسے بتایا جارہا ہے کہ تو ہمیشہ سے ایسا نہ تھا بلکہ تجھے نیست سے ہست کیا گیا ہے اور تمہیں ہوش وگوش کی جو قوتیں عطا کی گئی ہیں ان کا مقصد تمہاری آزمائش ہے کہ کیا تم اللہ کے شکر گزار بندوں پر کیے جائیں گے۔

وہ دور خود بینی اور خود غرضی کا دور تھا۔ دوسروں کی خستہ حالی کو دیکھ کر رحمت وشفقت کے بجائے نفرت وحقارت کے جذبات امڈ آیا کرتے تھے۔ ایسے زمانے میں ان لوگوں کی توصیف فرمائی جارہی ہے جو مسکینوں، یتیموں اور اسیروں کو محض اللہ کی رضا کے لیے کھانا کھلایا کرتے تھے۔ پھر ان نوازشات کا ذکر فرمایا جن سے ایسے لوگوں کو نوازاجائے گا۔ آخری رکوع میں پھر اپنے محبوب کو بتادیا کہ یہ کتاب مقدس ہم نے آپ پر نازل فرمائی ہے۔ اس کی تبلیغ میں جو تکلیف آئے، اس پر صبر کیجیے اور ہر وقت اللہ تعالیٰ کے ذکر میں مشغول رہیے تاکہ روحانی قوتیں نشوونما پائیں اور حوصلے بلند رہیں۔

اس کے بعد دنیا پرستوں کے حالات بیان کیے اور ان کی کوتاہ نظری پر انہیں تنبیہ کی کہ وہ فانی زندگی کی لذتوں میں مگن رہے اور آخرت کی ابدی راحتوں کو انہوں نے پس پشت ڈال دیا ہے۔ آخر میں بتایا کہ یہ کتاب پند و موعظمت ہے۔ اب جس کی مرضی ہے، وہ اس کی نصیحتوں پر عمل کرے۔

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the All-Merciful

ہَلۡ اَتٰی عَلَی الۡاِنۡسَانِ حِیۡنٌ مِّنَ الدَّہۡرِ لَمۡ یَکُنۡ شَیۡئًا مَّذۡکُوۡرًا ﴿۱﴾

1. Indeed, there has been a span of time upon human being when he was not something worth mentioning.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 1)

اِنَّا خَلَقۡنَا الۡاِنۡسَانَ مِنۡ نُّطۡفَۃٍ اَمۡشَاجٍ ٭ۖ نَّبۡتَلِیۡہِ فَجَعَلۡنٰہُ سَمِیۡعًۢا بَصِیۡرًا ﴿۲﴾

2. Indeed, We created human being from a drop of mingled fluid (i.e. a zygote*) that We may examine him (from stage to stage). Then, We endowed him with hearing (and) seeing.

* In Arabic, the word ‘al-nutfa’ is mentioned, and it refers to a zygote, which is a mixture of male and female gametes. It is the new single cell formed after the union of a sperm and ovum.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 2)

اِنَّا ہَدَیۡنٰہُ السَّبِیۡلَ اِمَّا شَاکِرًا وَّ اِمَّا کَفُوۡرًا ﴿۳﴾

3. Indeed, We have shown him the way, whether (he chooses to be) grateful or ungrateful.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 3)

اِنَّاۤ اَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلۡکٰفِرِیۡنَ سَلٰسِلَا۠ وَ اَغۡلٰلًا وَّ سَعِیۡرًا ﴿۴﴾

4. Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains, iron collars and a blazing Fire.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 4)

اِنَّ الۡاَبۡرَارَ یَشۡرَبُوۡنَ مِنۡ کَاۡسٍ کَانَ مِزَاجُہَا کَافُوۡرًا ۚ﴿۵﴾

5. The virtuous will have a (pure) drink mixed with camphor.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 5)

عَیۡنًا یَّشۡرَبُ بِہَا عِبَادُ اللّٰہِ یُفَجِّرُوۡنَہَا تَفۡجِیۡرًا ﴿۶﴾

6. (Camphor is) a spring (in Paradise) from which the servants of Allah will drink; they will make it to gush out abundantly (and flow like streams wherever they desire).

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 6)

یُوۡفُوۡنَ بِالنَّذۡرِ وَ یَخَافُوۡنَ یَوۡمًا کَانَ شَرُّہٗ مُسۡتَطِیۡرًا ﴿۷﴾

7. They fulfil their vows and fear a Day whose horror will be widespread,

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 7)

وَ یُطۡعِمُوۡنَ الطَّعَامَ عَلٰی حُبِّہٖ مِسۡکِیۡنًا وَّ یَتِیۡمًا وَّ اَسِیۡرًا ﴿۸﴾

8. and give food for His love (despite their need for it) to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner,

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 8)

اِنَّمَا نُطۡعِمُکُمۡ لِوَجۡہِ اللّٰہِ لَا نُرِیۡدُ مِنۡکُمۡ جَزَآءً وَّ لَا شُکُوۡرًا ﴿۹﴾

9. (and say:) ‘We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We do not desire any reward from you, nor thanks.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 9)

اِنَّا نَخَافُ مِنۡ رَّبِّنَا یَوۡمًا عَبُوۡسًا قَمۡطَرِیۡرًا ﴿۱۰﴾

10. Indeed, We fear from our Lord the Day that will make (faces) look very dark (and) ugly.’

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 10)

فَوَقٰہُمُ اللّٰہُ شَرَّ ذٰلِکَ الۡیَوۡمِ وَ لَقّٰہُمۡ نَضۡرَۃً وَّ سُرُوۡرًا ﴿ۚ۱۱﴾

11. So Allah has shielded them from the horror of that Day and granted them freshness and radiance (upon their faces) and happiness (in their hearts).

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 11)

وَ جَزٰىہُمۡ بِمَا صَبَرُوۡا جَنَّۃً وَّ حَرِیۡرًا ﴿ۙ۱۲﴾

12. He rewarded them for being patient with a Garden and (garments of) silk.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 12)

مُّتَّکِـِٕیۡنَ فِیۡہَا عَلَی الۡاَرَآئِکِ ۚ لَا یَرَوۡنَ فِیۡہَا شَمۡسًا وَّ لَا زَمۡہَرِیۡرًا ﴿ۚ۱۳﴾

13. Reclining there upon couches, they will find in it neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 13)

وَ دَانِیَۃً عَلَیۡہِمۡ ظِلٰلُہَا وَ ذُلِّلَتۡ قُطُوۡفُہَا تَذۡلِیۡلًا ﴿۱۴﴾

14. Its shades will be close over them, and its clusters (of fruit) will be made to hang low.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 14)

وَ یُطَافُ عَلَیۡہِمۡ بِاٰنِیَۃٍ مِّنۡ فِضَّۃٍ وَّ اَکۡوَابٍ کَانَتۡ قَؔوَارِیۡرَا۠ ﴿ۙ۱۵﴾

15. And silver vessels and shining crystal goblets will be brought around them.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 15)

قَؔ‍وَارِیۡرَا۠ مِنۡ فِضَّۃٍ قَدَّرُوۡہَا تَقۡدِیۡرًا ﴿۱۶﴾

16. (These goblets will be made of) gleaming crystalline silver, which they will apportion in a precise measure.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 16)

وَ یُسۡقَوۡنَ فِیۡہَا کَاۡسًا کَانَ مِزَاجُہَا زَنۡجَبِیۡلًا ﴿ۚ۱۷﴾

17. They will be served there with a glass of (pure) drink mixed with ginger,

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 17)

عَیۡنًا فِیۡہَا تُسَمّٰی سَلۡسَبِیۡلًا ﴿۱۸﴾

18. (from) a spring therein called Salsabil.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 18)

وَ یَطُوۡفُ عَلَیۡہِمۡ وِلۡدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُوۡنَ ۚ اِذَا رَاَیۡتَہُمۡ حَسِبۡتَہُمۡ لُؤۡلُؤًا مَّنۡثُوۡرًا ﴿۱۹﴾

19. Immortal youths will serve around them. When you see them, you will think they were scattered pearls.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 19)

وَ اِذَا رَاَیۡتَ ثَمَّ رَاَیۡتَ نَعِیۡمًا وَّ مُلۡکًا کَبِیۡرًا ﴿۲۰﴾

20. As you look (at Paradise), you will see bliss (in abundance) and a great kingdom (all around).

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 20)

عٰلِیَہُمۡ ثِیَابُ سُنۡدُسٍ خُضۡرٌ وَّ اِسۡتَبۡرَقٌ ۫ وَّ حُلُّوۡۤا اَسَاوِرَ مِنۡ فِضَّۃٍ ۚ وَ سَقٰہُمۡ رَبُّہُمۡ شَرَابًا طَہُوۡرًا ﴿۲۱﴾

21. Upon them will be garments of fine green silk and rich brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them to drink a most pure drink.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 21)

اِنَّ ہٰذَا کَانَ لَکُمۡ جَزَآءً وَّ کَانَ سَعۡیُکُمۡ مَّشۡکُوۡرًا ﴿٪۲۲﴾

22. (They will be told:) ‘This is indeed your reward, and your endeavour is well appreciated.’

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 22)

اِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا عَلَیۡکَ الۡقُرۡاٰنَ تَنۡزِیۡلًا ﴿ۚ۲۳﴾

23. Indeed, We have sent down the Qur’an upon you as a piecemeal revelation.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 23)

فَاصۡبِرۡ لِحُکۡمِ رَبِّکَ وَ لَا تُطِعۡ مِنۡہُمۡ اٰثِمًا اَوۡ کَفُوۡرًا ﴿ۚ۲۴﴾

24. So (continue to) be patient with your Lord’s decree and do not listen to any sinner or disbeliever from among them.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 24)

وَ اذۡکُرِ اسۡمَ رَبِّکَ بُکۡرَۃً وَّ اَصِیۡلًا ﴿ۖۚ۲۵﴾

25. And (always) celebrate the Name of your Lord, morning and evening.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 25)

وَ مِنَ الَّیۡلِ فَاسۡجُدۡ لَہٗ وَ سَبِّحۡہُ لَیۡلًا طَوِیۡلًا ﴿۲۶﴾

26. And prostrate before Him, in some part of the night, and glorify Him by night at length.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 26)

اِنَّ ہٰۤؤُلَآءِ یُحِبُّوۡنَ الۡعَاجِلَۃَ وَ یَذَرُوۡنَ وَرَآءَہُمۡ یَوۡمًا ثَقِیۡلًا ﴿۲۷﴾

27. Indeed, these (disbelievers) love this transitory life and (neglectfully) put a tough day behind them.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 27)

نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنٰہُمۡ وَ شَدَدۡنَاۤ اَسۡرَہُمۡ ۚ وَ اِذَا شِئۡنَا بَدَّلۡنَاۤ اَمۡثَالَہُمۡ تَبۡدِیۡلًا ﴿۲۸﴾

28. We created them and strengthened their physical structure. And when We wish, We can easily replace them with others like them.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 28)

اِنَّ ہٰذِہٖ تَذۡکِرَۃٌ ۚ فَمَنۡ شَآءَ اتَّخَذَ اِلٰی رَبِّہٖ سَبِیۡلًا ﴿۲۹﴾

29. This (Qur’an) is indeed a Reminder. So whoever wishes, let him take the (right) path towards his Lord.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 29)

وَ مَا تَشَآءُوۡنَ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ یَّشَآءَ اللّٰہُ ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ کَانَ عَلِیۡمًا حَکِیۡمًا ﴿٭ۖ۳۰﴾

30. But you cannot wish (to do so) unless Allah wills (it). Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 30)

یُّدۡخِلُ مَنۡ یَّشَآءُ فِیۡ رَحۡمَتِہٖ ؕ وَ الظّٰلِمِیۡنَ اَعَدَّ لَہُمۡ عَذَابًا اَلِیۡمًا ﴿٪۳۱﴾

31. He admits whomever He pleases into His mercy. But as for the wrongdoers, He has prepared a painful punishment for them.

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 31)

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the All-Merciful

1. Indeed, there has been a span of time upon human being when he was not something worth mentioning.

هل أتى على الإنسان حين من الدهر لم يكن شيئا مذكورا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 1)

2. Indeed, We created human being from a drop of mingled fluid (i.e. a zygote*) that We may examine him (from stage to stage). Then, We endowed him with hearing (and) seeing.

إنا خلقنا الإنسان من نطفة أمشاج نبتليه فجعلناه سميعا بصيرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 2)

3. Indeed, We have shown him the way, whether (he chooses to be) grateful or ungrateful.

إنا هديناه السبيل إما شاكرا وإما كفورا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 3)

إنا أعتدنا للكافرين سلاسلا وأغلالا وسعيرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 4)

إن الأبرار يشربون من كأس كان مزاجها كافورا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 5)

6. (Camphor is) a spring (in Paradise) from which the servants of Allah will drink; they will make it to gush out abundantly (and flow like streams wherever they desire).

عينا يشرب بها عباد الله يفجرونها تفجيرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 6)

يوفون بالنذر ويخافون يوما كان شره مستطيرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 7)

ويطعمون الطعام على حبه مسكينا ويتيما وأسيرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 8)

إنما نطعمكم لوجه الله لا نريد منكم جزاء ولا شكورا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 9)

10. Indeed, We fear from our Lord the Day that will make (faces) look very dark (and) ugly.’

إنا نخاف من ربنا يوما عبوسا قمطريرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 10)

11. So Allah has shielded them from the horror of that Day and granted them freshness and radiance (upon their faces) and happiness (in their hearts).

فوقاهم الله شر ذلك اليوم ولقاهم نضرة وسرورا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 11)

وجزاهم بما صبروا جنة وحريرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 12)

متكئين فيها على الأرائك لا يرون فيها شمسا ولا زمهريرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 13)

14. Its shades will be close over them, and its clusters (of fruit) will be made to hang low.

ودانية عليهم ظلالها وذللت قطوفها تذليلا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 14)

15. And silver vessels and shining crystal goblets will be brought around them.

ويطاف عليهم بآنية من فضة وأكواب كانت قواريرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 15)

16. (These goblets will be made of) gleaming crystalline silver, which they will apportion in a precise measure.

قواريرا من فضة قدروها تقديرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 16)

17. They will be served there with a glass of (pure) drink mixed with ginger,

ويسقون فيها كأسا كان مزاجها زنجبيلا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 17)

18. (from) a spring therein called Salsabil.

عينا فيها تسمى سلسبيلا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 18)

19. Immortal youths will serve around them. When you see them, you will think they were scattered pearls.

ويطوف عليهم ولدان مخلدون إذا رأيتهم حسبتهم لؤلؤا منثورا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 19)

20. As you look (at Paradise), you will see bliss (in abundance) and a great kingdom (all around).

وإذا رأيت ثم رأيت نعيما وملكا كبيرا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 20)

عاليهم ثياب سندس خضر وإستبرق وحلوا أساور من فضة وسقاهم ربهم شرابا طهورا

(الْإِنْسَان - الدَّهْر، 76 : 21)

22. (They will be told:) ‘This is indeed your reward, and your endeavour is well appreciated.’

إن هذا كان لكم جزاء وكان سعيكم مشكورا
