In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the All-Merciful
قَیِّمًا لِّیُنۡذِرَ بَاۡسًا شَدِیۡدًا مِّنۡ لَّدُنۡہُ وَ یُبَشِّرَ الۡمُؤۡمِنِیۡنَ الَّذِیۡنَ یَعۡمَلُوۡنَ الصّٰلِحٰتِ اَنَّ لَہُمۡ اَجۡرًا حَسَنًا ۙ﴿۲﴾
2. (He has made it) perfectly upright, to warn (the disbelievers) of severe punishment from Him and to give glad tidings to the believers who perform righteous deeds that there shall be a beautiful reward for them,
قيما لينذر بأسا شديدا من لدنه ويبشر المؤمنين الذين يعملون الصالحات أن لهم أجرا حسنا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 2)
مَا لَہُمۡ بِہٖ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍ وَّ لَا لِاٰبَآئِہِمۡ ؕ کَبُرَتۡ کَلِمَۃً تَخۡرُجُ مِنۡ اَفۡوَاہِہِمۡ ؕ اِنۡ یَّقُوۡلُوۡنَ اِلَّا کَذِبًا ﴿۵﴾
5. They have no knowledge about this, nor did their forefathers. It is a grievous utterance that comes out of their mouths, and they say nothing but a lie.
ما لهم به من علم ولا لآبائهم كبرت كلمة تخرج من أفواههم إن يقولون إلا كذبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 5)
فَلَعَلَّکَ بَاخِعٌ نَّفۡسَکَ عَلٰۤی اٰثَارِہِمۡ اِنۡ لَّمۡ یُؤۡمِنُوۡا بِہٰذَا الۡحَدِیۡثِ اَسَفًا ﴿۶﴾
6. Yet (O Prophet), perhaps you will consume yourself with grief for their sake if they do not believe in this message (i.e. the Qur’an).
فلعلك باخع نفسك على آثارهم إن لم يؤمنوا بهذا الحديث أسفا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 6)
اِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا مَا عَلَی الۡاَرۡضِ زِیۡنَۃً لَّہَا لِنَبۡلُوَہُمۡ اَیُّہُمۡ اَحۡسَنُ عَمَلًا ﴿۷﴾
7. Indeed, We have made whatever is on the earth an adornment for it, that We may test them as to which of them is best in conduct.
إنا جعلنا ما على الأرض زينة لها لنبلوهم أيهم أحسن عملا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 7)
اَمۡ حَسِبۡتَ اَنَّ اَصۡحٰبَ الۡکَہۡفِ وَ الرَّقِیۡمِ ۙ کَانُوۡا مِنۡ اٰیٰتِنَا عَجَبًا ﴿۹﴾
9. (O Prophet!) Have you considered that the Companions of the Cave and the Valley of al-Raqim (or Inscription) were among Our wonderful signs?*
* The story of the Companions of the Cave is also known in the Christian tradition as the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus. This was a group of believing Christian youths who hid inside a cave outside the city of Ephesus around 250 AD. They fled to Allah, protecting their faith and seeking refuge from their king (the Roman emperor) named Daqyanus (Decius). The pious youths slept for 300 solar years, which equates to 309 lunar years. It is one of the most evident examples of non-prophetic miracles (karamat) in the Qur’an.
أم حسبت أن أصحاب الكهف والرقيم كانوا من آياتنا عجبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 9)
اِذۡ اَوَی الۡفِتۡیَۃُ اِلَی الۡکَہۡفِ فَقَالُوۡا رَبَّنَاۤ اٰتِنَا مِنۡ لَّدُنۡکَ رَحۡمَۃً وَّ ہَیِّیٴۡ لَنَا مِنۡ اَمۡرِنَا رَشَدًا ﴿۱۰﴾
10. When the youths took refuge in the cave, they said: ‘Our Lord! Grant us mercy from Your presence and make us incline to the right course concerning our affair.’
إذ أوى الفتية إلى الكهف فقالوا ربنا آتنا من لدنك رحمة وهيئ لنا من أمرنا رشدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 10)
ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنٰہُمۡ لِنَعۡلَمَ اَیُّ الۡحِزۡبَیۡنِ اَحۡصٰی لِمَا لَبِثُوۡۤا اَمَدًا ﴿٪۱۲﴾
12. Then We raised them (again) so that We may show (them) which of the two groups had better calculated the period they had stayed (in the cave).
ثم بعثناهم لنعلم أي الحزبين أحصى لما لبثوا أمدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 12)
نَحۡنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَیۡکَ نَبَاَہُمۡ بِالۡحَقِّ ؕ اِنَّہُمۡ فِتۡیَۃٌ اٰمَنُوۡا بِرَبِّہِمۡ وَ زِدۡنٰہُمۡ ہُدًی ﴿٭ۖ۱۳﴾
13. We relate their story to you exactly (as it happened). They were (pious) youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.
نحن نقص عليك نبأهم بالحق إنهم فتية آمنوا بربهم وزدناهم هدى
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 13)
وَّ رَبَطۡنَا عَلٰی قُلُوۡبِہِمۡ اِذۡ قَامُوۡا فَقَالُوۡا رَبُّنَا رَبُّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ لَنۡ نَّدۡعُوَا۠ مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖۤ اِلٰـہًا لَّقَدۡ قُلۡنَاۤ اِذًا شَطَطًا ﴿۱۴﴾
14. We fortified their hearts when they stood up boldly (before their king). They said: ‘Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. We will never worship any (false) god besides Him, for then we shall have certainly said an outrageous thing.
وربطنا على قلوبهم إذ قاموا فقالوا ربنا رب السماوات والأرض لن ندعوا من دونه إلها لقد قلنا إذا شططا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 14)
ہٰۤؤُلَآءِ قَوۡمُنَا اتَّخَذُوۡا مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖۤ اٰلِہَۃً ؕ لَوۡ لَا یَاۡتُوۡنَ عَلَیۡہِمۡ بِسُلۡطٰنٍۭ بَیِّنٍ ؕ فَمَنۡ اَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ افۡتَرٰی عَلَی اللّٰہِ کَذِبًا ﴿ؕ۱۵﴾
15. These people of ours have taken gods besides Him. Why do they not bring any clear evidence to support them? So who could be more unjust than someone who fabricates a lie against Allah?’
هؤلاء قومنا اتخذوا من دونه آلهة لولا يأتون عليهم بسلطان بين فمن أظلم ممن افترى على الله كذبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 15)
وَ اِذِ اعۡتَزَلۡتُمُوۡہُمۡ وَمَا یَعۡبُدُوۡنَ اِلَّا اللّٰہَ فَاۡ وٗۤا اِلَی الۡکَہۡفِ یَنۡشُرۡ لَکُمۡ رَبُّکُمۡ مِّنۡ رَّحۡمَتِہٖ وَیُہَیِّیٴۡ لَکُمۡ مِّنۡ اَمۡرِکُمۡ مِّرۡفَقًا ﴿۱۶﴾
16. (So those young men said to one another:) ‘When you have separated yourselves from them and what they worship besides Allah, take refuge in the cave. Your Lord will unfold His mercy for you and will make for you an easy way out in your affair.’
وإذ اعتزلتموهم وما يعبدون إلا الله فأووا إلى الكهف ينشر لكم ربكم من رحمته ويهيئ لكم من أمركم مرفقا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 16)
وَ تَرَی الشَّمۡسَ اِذَا طَلَعَتۡ تَّزٰوَرُ عَنۡ کَہۡفِہِمۡ ذَاتَ الۡیَمِیۡنِ وَ اِذَا غَرَبَتۡ تَّقۡرِضُہُمۡ ذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ وَ ہُمۡ فِیۡ فَجۡوَۃٍ مِّنۡہُ ؕ ذٰلِکَ مِنۡ اٰیٰتِ اللّٰہِ ؕ مَنۡ یَّہۡدِ اللّٰہُ فَہُوَ الۡمُہۡتَدِ ۚ وَ مَنۡ یُّضۡلِلۡ فَلَنۡ تَجِدَ لَہٗ وَلِیًّا مُّرۡشِدًا ﴿٪۱۷﴾
17. You would have seen the sun as it rose, declining from their cave to the right, and when it set (you would have seen it) turning away from them to the left while they were in an open space within it. That is among the signs of Allah. Whomever Allah guides is rightly guided, and whomever He leaves to stray, you shall never find for him any guardian who guides (to the right path).
وترى الشمس إذا طلعت تزاور عن كهفهم ذات اليمين وإذا غربت تقرضهم ذات الشمال وهم في فجوة منه ذلك من آيات الله من يهد الله فهو المهتد ومن يضلل فلن تجد له وليا مرشدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 17)
وَ تَحۡسَبُہُمۡ اَیۡقَاظًا وَّ ہُمۡ رُقُوۡدٌ ٭ۖ وَّ نُقَلِّبُہُمۡ ذَاتَ الۡیَمِیۡنِ وَ ذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ ٭ۖ وَ کَلۡبُہُمۡ بَاسِطٌ ذِرَاعَیۡہِ بِالۡوَصِیۡدِ ؕ لَوِ اطَّلَعۡتَ عَلَیۡہِمۡ لَوَلَّیۡتَ مِنۡہُمۡ فِرَارًا وَّ لَمُلِئۡتَ مِنۡہُمۡ رُعۡبًا ﴿۱۸﴾
18. You would have thought them awake while they were asleep. And We turned them over, to the right and the left, while their dog was (lying) stretching out its forelegs at the entrance (of the cave). Had you come upon them, you would surely have turned away to flee from them and would surely been filled with fear of them.
وتحسبهم أيقاظا وهم رقود ونقلبهم ذات اليمين وذات الشمال وكلبهم باسط ذراعيه بالوصيد لواطلعت عليهم لوليت منهم فرارا ولملئت منهم رعبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 18)
وَ کَذٰلِکَ بَعَثۡنٰہُمۡ لِیَتَسَآءَلُوۡا بَیۡنَہُمۡ ؕ قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنۡہُمۡ کَمۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ ؕ قَالُوۡا لَبِثۡنَا یَوۡمًا اَوۡ بَعۡضَ یَوۡمٍ ؕ قَالُوۡا رَبُّکُمۡ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثۡتُمۡ ؕ فَابۡعَثُوۡۤا اَحَدَکُمۡ بِوَرِقِکُمۡ ہٰذِہٖۤ اِلَی الۡمَدِیۡنَۃِ فَلۡیَنۡظُرۡ اَیُّہَاۤ اَزۡکٰی طَعَامًا فَلۡیَاۡتِکُمۡ بِرِزۡقٍ مِّنۡہُ وَ لۡـیَؔتَلَطَّفۡ وَ لَا یُشۡعِرَنَّ بِکُمۡ اَحَدًا ﴿۱۹﴾
19. Even so, We raised them (from sleep) that they might question one another. One of them said: ‘How long have you stayed (here)?’ Some replied: ‘We have stayed a day or a part of a day.’ They said (to one another): ‘Your Lord knows best how long you have stayed. Send one of you to the town with this money of yours. Let him observe which of them has the purest food and bring you some provisions from there. Let him be polite (and careful), and by no means make anyone aware of you.
وكذلك بعثناهم ليتساءلوا بينهم قال قائل منهم كم لبثتم قالوا لبثنا يوما أو بعض يوم قالوا ربكم أعلم بما لبثتم فابعثوا أحدكم بورقكم هذه إلى المدينة فلينظر أيها أزكى طعاما فليأتكم برزق منه وليتلطف ولا يشعرن بكم أحدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 19)
اِنَّہُمۡ اِنۡ یَّظۡہَرُوۡا عَلَیۡکُمۡ یَرۡجُمُوۡکُمۡ اَوۡ یُعِیۡدُوۡکُمۡ فِیۡ مِلَّتِہِمۡ وَ لَنۡ تُفۡلِحُوۡۤا اِذًا اَبَدًا ﴿۲۰﴾
20. Indeed, if they come to find you out, they will stone you (to death) or force you to return to their faith. And then you will never be saved.’
إنهم إن يظهروا عليكم يرجموكم أو يعيدوكم في ملتهم ولن تفلحوا إذا أبدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 20)
وَ کَذٰلِکَ اَعۡثَرۡنَا عَلَیۡہِمۡ لِیَعۡلَمُوۡۤا اَنَّ وَعۡدَ اللّٰہِ حَقٌّ وَّ اَنَّ السَّاعَۃَ لَا رَیۡبَ فِیۡہَا ۚ٭ اِذۡ یَتَنَازَعُوۡنَ بَیۡنَہُمۡ اَمۡرَہُمۡ فَقَالُوا ابۡنُوۡا عَلَیۡہِمۡ بُنۡیَانًا ؕ رَبُّہُمۡ اَعۡلَمُ بِہِمۡ ؕ قَالَ الَّذِیۡنَ غَلَبُوۡا عَلٰۤی اَمۡرِہِمۡ لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ عَلَیۡہِمۡ مَّسۡجِدًا ﴿۲۱﴾
21. So in this way, We brought them to the people’s attention so that they may know that Allah’s promise (of the Resurrection) is true, and as for the Last Hour, there is no doubt about it. As they (i.e. the town’s people) were disputing among themselves in their matter, they said: ‘Construct a building over them; their Lord knows best about them.’ Those who prevailed over their affair said: ‘We shall build a place of worship over them.’
وكذلك أعثرنا عليهم ليعلموا أن وعد الله حق وأن الساعة لا ريب فيها إذ يتنازعون بينهم أمرهم فقالوا ابنوا عليهم بنيانا ربهم أعلم بهم قال الذين غلبوا على أمرهم لنتخذن عليهم مسجدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 21)
سَیَقُوۡلُوۡنَ ثَلٰثَۃٌ رَّابِعُہُمۡ کَلۡبُہُمۡ ۚ وَ یَقُوۡلُوۡنَ خَمۡسَۃٌ سَادِسُہُمۡ کَلۡبُہُمۡ رَجۡمًۢا بِالۡغَیۡبِ ۚ وَ یَقُوۡلُوۡنَ سَبۡعَۃٌ وَّ ثَامِنُہُمۡ کَلۡبُہُمۡ ؕ قُلۡ رَّبِّیۡۤ اَعۡلَمُ بِعِدَّتِہِمۡ مَّا یَعۡلَمُہُمۡ اِلَّا قَلِیۡلٌ ۬۟ فَلَا تُمَارِ فِیۡہِمۡ اِلَّا مِرَآءً ظَاہِرًا ۪ وَّ لَا تَسۡتَفۡتِ فِیۡہِمۡ مِّنۡہُمۡ اَحَدًا ﴿٪۲۲﴾
22. Some will say: ‘(The Companions of the Cave) were three, and the fourth of them was their dog.’ And others will say: ‘(They were) five, and the sixth of them was their dog.’ (They are) guessing at the Unseen. Yet others will say: ‘(They were) seven, and the eighth of them was their dog.’ Say: ‘My Lord knows best their number, and none (truly) knows about them except a few.’ So do not dispute concerning them except with a clear argument. And do not question any of them about them.
سيقولون ثلاثة رابعهم كلبهم ويقولون خمسة سادسهم كلبهم رجما بالغيب ويقولون سبعة وثامنهم كلبهم قل ربي أعلم بعدتهم ما يعلمهم إلا قليل فلا تمار فيهم إلا مراء ظاهرا ولا تستفت فيهم منهم أحدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 22)
اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ یَّشَآءَ اللّٰہُ ۫ وَ اذۡکُرۡ رَّبَّکَ اِذَا نَسِیۡتَ وَ قُلۡ عَسٰۤی اَنۡ یَّہۡدِیَنِ رَبِّیۡ لِاَقۡرَبَ مِنۡ ہٰذَا رَشَدًا ﴿۲۴﴾
24. except (adding): ‘If Allah wills so.’ And remember your Lord when you forget. And say: ‘Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is closer to right conduct than this.’
إلا أن يشاء الله واذكر ربك إذا نسيت وقل عسى أن يهدين ربي لأقرب من هذا رشدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 24)
وَ لَبِثُوۡا فِیۡ کَہۡفِہِمۡ ثَلٰثَ مِائَۃٍ سِنِیۡنَ وَ ازۡدَادُوۡا تِسۡعًا ﴿۲۵﴾
25. They remained in their cave for three hundred years, adding nine more (to that number).*
* It may be 300 years, according to the Gregorian Calendar, which equals 309 years of the Islamic Lunar Calendar.
ولبثوا في كهفهم ثلاث مائة سنين وازدادوا تسعا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 25)
قُلِ اللّٰہُ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثُوۡا ۚ لَہٗ غَیۡبُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ ؕ اَبۡصِرۡ بِہٖ وَ اَسۡمِعۡ ؕ مَا لَہُمۡ مِّنۡ دُوۡنِہٖ مِنۡ وَّلِیٍّ ۫ وَّ لَا یُشۡرِکُ فِیۡ حُکۡمِہٖۤ اَحَدًا ﴿۲۶﴾
26. Say: ‘Allah knows best how long they stayed.’ To Him belongs the Unseen of the heavens and the earth. How wonderful His seeing and how wonderful His hearing! They have no guardian besides Him. And He does not make anyone a partner in His judgement.
قل الله أعلم بما لبثوا له غيب السماوات والأرض أبصر به وأسمع ما لهم من دونه من ولي ولا يشرك في حكمه أحدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 26)
وَ اتۡلُ مَاۤ اُوۡحِیَ اِلَیۡکَ مِنۡ کِتَابِ رَبِّکَ ۚؕ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِکَلِمٰتِہٖ ۚ۟ وَ لَنۡ تَجِدَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖ مُلۡتَحَدًا ﴿۲۷﴾
27. Recite what has been revealed to you from your Lord’s Book. None can change His Words. And you will never find any refuge besides Him.
واتل ما أوحي إليك من كتاب ربك لا مبدل لكلماته ولن تجد من دونه ملتحدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 27)
وَ اصۡبِرۡ نَفۡسَکَ مَعَ الَّذِیۡنَ یَدۡعُوۡنَ رَبَّہُمۡ بِالۡغَدٰوۃِ وَ الۡعَشِیِّ یُرِیۡدُوۡنَ وَجۡہَہٗ وَ لَا تَعۡدُ عَیۡنٰکَ عَنۡہُمۡ ۚ تُرِیۡدُ زِیۡنَۃَ الۡحَیٰوۃِ الدُّنۡیَا ۚ وَ لَا تُطِعۡ مَنۡ اَغۡفَلۡنَا قَلۡبَہٗ عَنۡ ذِکۡرِنَا وَ اتَّبَعَ ہَوٰىہُ وَ کَانَ اَمۡرُہٗ فُرُطًا ﴿۲۸﴾
28. Keep yourself patiently in the company of those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, desiring His Countenance (i.e. His pleasure). And do not turn your eyes away from them, desiring the attractions of this world’s life, nor follow the one whose heart We have made negligent of Our remembrance, who follows his low desires and whose affair exceeds (all) bounds.
واصبر نفسك مع الذين يدعون ربهم بالغداة والعشي يريدون وجهه ولا تعد عيناك عنهم تريد زينة الحياة الدنيا ولا تطع من أغفلنا قلبه عن ذكرنا واتبع هواه وكان أمره فرطا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 28)
وَ قُلِ الۡحَقُّ مِنۡ رَّبِّکُمۡ ۟ فَمَنۡ شَآءَ فَلۡیُؤۡمِنۡ وَّ مَنۡ شَآءَ فَلۡیَکۡفُرۡ ۙ اِنَّاۤ اَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلظّٰلِمِیۡنَ نَارًا ۙ اَحَاطَ بِہِمۡ سُرَادِقُہَا ؕ وَ اِنۡ یَّسۡتَغِیۡثُوۡا یُغَاثُوۡا بِمَآءٍ کَالۡمُہۡلِ یَشۡوِی الۡوُجُوۡہَ ؕ بِئۡسَ الشَّرَابُ ؕ وَ سَآءَتۡ مُرۡتَفَقًا ﴿۲۹﴾
29. And say: ‘(This is) the truth from your Lord. So whoever wishes, let him believe, and whoever wishes, let him disbelieve.’ Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire, the curtains of which will surround them (from all sides). And if they plead for relief, they will be showered with (boiling) water, like molten copper, which will burn (their) faces. What a dreadful drink! And what a terrible resting place!
وقل الحق من ربكم فمن شاء فليؤمن ومن شاء فليكفر إنا أعتدنا للظالمين نارا أحاط بهم سرادقها وإن يستغيثوا يغاثوا بماء كالمهل يشوي الوجوه بئس الشراب وساءت مرتفقا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 29)
اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ اِنَّا لَا نُضِیۡعُ اَجۡرَ مَنۡ اَحۡسَنَ عَمَلًا ﴿ۚ۳۰﴾
30. As for those who believe and perform righteous deeds, We surely do not waste the reward of those who are excellent in conduct.
إن الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات إنا لا نضيع أجر من أحسن عملا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 30)
اُولٰٓئِکَ لَہُمۡ جَنّٰتُ عَدۡنٍ تَجۡرِیۡ مِنۡ تَحۡتِہِمُ الۡاَنۡہٰرُ یُحَلَّوۡنَ فِیۡہَا مِنۡ اَسَاوِرَ مِنۡ ذَہَبٍ وَّ یَلۡبَسُوۡنَ ثِیَابًا خُضۡرًا مِّنۡ سُنۡدُسٍ وَّ اِسۡتَبۡرَقٍ مُّتَّکِئِیۡنَ فِیۡہَا عَلَی الۡاَرَآئِکِ ؕ نِعۡمَ الثَّوَابُ ؕ وَ حَسُنَتۡ مُرۡتَفَقًا ﴿٪۳۱﴾
31. For such, there shall be the Gardens of Eternity, with rivers flowing beneath them. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold, and they shall wear green robes of fine silk and brocade interwoven with gold. They will be comfortably seated therein upon soft couches. What a blessed reward! And what a fantastic resting place!
أولئك لهم جنات عدن تجري من تحتهم الأنهار يحلون فيها من أساور من ذهب ويلبسون ثيابا خضرا من سندس وإستبرق متكئين فيها على الأرائك نعم الثواب وحسنت مرتفقا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 31)
وَ اضۡرِبۡ لَہُمۡ مَّثَلًا رَّجُلَیۡنِ جَعَلۡنَا لِاَحَدِہِمَا جَنَّتَیۡنِ مِنۡ اَعۡنَابٍ وَّ حَفَفۡنٰہُمَا بِنَخۡلٍ وَّ جَعَلۡنَا بَیۡنَہُمَا زَرۡعًا ﴿ؕ۳۲﴾
32. Tell them the parable of two men: for one of them, We made two gardens of grapevines, and We surrounded them both with date palms and placed corn fields between them.
واضرب لهم مثلا رجلين جعلنا لأحدهما جنتين من أعناب وحففناهما بنخل وجعلنا بينهما زرعا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 32)
کِلۡتَا الۡجَنَّتَیۡنِ اٰتَتۡ اُکُلَہَا وَ لَمۡ تَظۡلِمۡ مِّنۡہُ شَیۡئًا ۙ وَّ فَجَّرۡنَا خِلٰلَہُمَا نَہَرًا ﴿ۙ۳۳﴾
33. Both gardens produced their fruits and did not fall short in any way. And We caused a river to gush through them.
كلتا الجنتين آتت أكلها ولم تظلم منه شيئا وفجرنا خلالهما نهرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 33)
وَّ کَانَ لَہٗ ثَمَرٌ ۚ فَقَالَ لِصَاحِبِہٖ وَ ہُوَ یُحَاوِرُہٗۤ اَنَا اَکۡثَرُ مِنۡکَ مَالًا وَّ اَعَزُّ نَفَرًا ﴿۳۴﴾
34. And he possessed (abundant wealth and) fruits. So he said to his companion, as he argued with him: ‘I am greater than you in wealth and stronger in number (i.e. in family and followers).’
وكان له ثمر فقال لصاحبه وهو يحاوره أنا أكثر منك مالا وأعز نفرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 34)
وَ دَخَلَ جَنَّتَہٗ وَ ہُوَ ظَالِمٌ لِّنَفۡسِہٖ ۚ قَالَ مَاۤ اَظُنُّ اَنۡ تَبِیۡدَ ہٰذِہٖۤ اَبَدًا ﴿ۙ۳۵﴾
35. And he went into his garden wronging himself (by way of arrogance). He said: ‘I do not think that this will ever perish.
ودخل جنته وهو ظالم لنفسه قال ما أظن أن تبيد هذه أبدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 35)
وَّ مَاۤ اَظُنُّ السَّاعَۃَ قَآئِمَۃً ۙ وَّ لَئِنۡ رُّدِدۡتُّ اِلٰی رَبِّیۡ لَاَجِدَنَّ خَیۡرًا مِّنۡہَا مُنۡقَلَبًا ﴿۳۶﴾
36. And I do not think that the Hour will ever come. And even if I am returned to my Lord, I will surely find a resort better than this.’
وما أظن الساعة قائمة ولئن رددت إلى ربي لأجدن خيرا منها منقلبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 36)
قَالَ لَہٗ صَاحِبُہٗ وَ ہُوَ یُحَاوِرُہٗۤ اَکَفَرۡتَ بِالَّذِیۡ خَلَقَکَ مِنۡ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنۡ نُّطۡفَۃٍ ثُمَّ سَوّٰىکَ رَجُلًا ﴿ؕ۳۷﴾
37. His companion said to him while conversing with him: ‘Do you disbelieve in Him Who created you (i.e. your father Adam) from dust, and then (developed you) from a zygote*, and then fashioned you as a man?
* In Arabic, the word ‘al-nutfa’ is mentioned, and it refers to a zygote, which is a mixture of male and female gametes. It is the new single cell formed after the union of a sperm and ovum.
قال له صاحبه وهو يحاوره أكفرت بالذي خلقك من تراب ثم من نطفة ثم سواك رجلا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 37)
وَ لَوۡ لَاۤ اِذۡ دَخَلۡتَ جَنَّتَکَ قُلۡتَ مَا شَآءَ اللّٰہُ ۙ لَا قُوَّۃَ اِلَّا بِاللّٰہِ ۚ اِنۡ تَرَنِ اَنَا اَقَلَّ مِنۡکَ مَالًا وَّ وَلَدًا ﴿ۚ۳۹﴾
39. And why did you not say when you entered your garden: ‘(This is) what Allah has willed! There is no power except in Allah!’ If you see that I am lesser than you in wealth and children,
ولولا إذ دخلت جنتك قلت ما شاء الله لا قوة إلا بالله إن ترن أنا أقل منك مالا وولدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 39)
فَعَسٰی رَبِّیۡۤ اَنۡ یُّؤۡتِیَنِ خَیۡرًا مِّنۡ جَنَّتِکَ وَ یُرۡسِلَ عَلَیۡہَا حُسۡبَانًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ فَتُصۡبِحَ صَعِیۡدًا زَلَقًا ﴿ۙ۴۰﴾
40. perhaps, my Lord will grant me (something) better than your garden and send down upon your garden thunderbolts from the sky so that it becomes a flattened plain.
فعسى ربي أن يؤتين خيرا من جنتك ويرسل عليها حسبانا من السماء فتصبح صعيدا زلقا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 40)
وَ اُحِیۡطَ بِثَمَرِہٖ فَاَصۡبَحَ یُقَلِّبُ کَفَّیۡہِ عَلٰی مَاۤ اَنۡفَقَ فِیۡہَا وَ ہِیَ خَاوِیَۃٌ عَلٰی عُرُوۡشِہَا وَ یَقُوۡلُ یٰلَیۡتَنِیۡ لَمۡ اُشۡرِکۡ بِرَبِّیۡۤ اَحَدًا ﴿۴۲﴾
42. (And so it happened.) His fruits were (entirely) destroyed, and he began to wring his hands over what he had invested while it had collapsed on its trellises, and he was saying: ‘I wish I had not ascribed any partner to my Lord.’
وأحيط بثمره فأصبح يقلب كفيه على ما أنفق فيها وهي خاوية على عروشها ويقول يا ليتني لم أشرك بربي أحدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 42)
ہُنَالِکَ الۡوَلَایَۃُ لِلّٰہِ الۡحَقِّ ؕ ہُوَ خَیۡرٌ ثَوَابًا وَّ خَیۡرٌ عُقۡبًا ﴿٪۴۴﴾
44. In this situation, the only protection* is that of Allah, the real (God). He is the best in rewarding and the best in requiting.
* The word ‘al-Walaya’, in common usage, designates a state of friendship, attachment and protection. In contrast, ‘al-Wilaya’ denotes a spiritual or political authority or guardianship, which comes from one’s relationship with a higher authority.
هنالك الولاية لله الحق هو خير ثوابا وخير عقبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 44)
وَ اضۡرِبۡ لَہُمۡ مَّثَلَ الۡحَیٰوۃِ الدُّنۡیَا کَمَآءٍ اَنۡزَلۡنٰہُ مِنَ السَّمَآءِ فَاخۡتَلَطَ بِہٖ نَبَاتُ الۡاَرۡضِ فَاَصۡبَحَ ہَشِیۡمًا تَذۡرُوۡہُ الرِّیٰحُ ؕ وَ کَانَ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی کُلِّ شَیۡءٍ مُّقۡتَدِرًا ﴿۴۵﴾
45. Draw an example of this worldly life for them: (It is) like the water We send down from the sky. Then the vegetation of the earth absorbs it (to grow). Then it (i.e. the vegetation) becomes dry, broken into pieces, which the winds scatter (afterwards). And Allah holds power over everything.
واضرب لهم مثل الحياة الدنيا كماء أنزلناه من السماء فاختلط به نبات الأرض فأصبح هشيما تذروه الرياح وكان الله على كل شيء مقتدرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 45)
اَلۡمَالُ وَ الۡبَنُوۡنَ زِیۡنَۃُ الۡحَیٰوۃِ الدُّنۡیَا ۚ وَ الۡبٰقِیٰتُ الصّٰلِحٰتُ خَیۡرٌ عِنۡدَ رَبِّکَ ثَوَابًا وَّ خَیۡرٌ اَمَلًا ﴿۴۶﴾
46. Wealth and children are the attractions of the worldly life. However, the everlasting righteous deeds are better in reward with your Lord and better in hope.
المال والبنون زينة الحياة الدنيا والباقيات الصالحات خير عند ربك ثوابا وخير أملا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 46)
وَ یَوۡمَ نُسَیِّرُ الۡجِبَالَ وَ تَرَی الۡاَرۡضَ بَارِزَۃً ۙ وَّ حَشَرۡنٰہُمۡ فَلَمۡ نُغَادِرۡ مِنۡہُمۡ اَحَدًا ﴿ۚ۴۷﴾
47. On the Day when We shall make the mountains move away, and you will see the earth an open plain, and We shall gather them, We shall not leave any of them out.
ويوم نسير الجبال وترى الأرض بارزة وحشرناهم فلم نغادر منهم أحدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 47)
وَ عُرِضُوۡا عَلٰی رَبِّکَ صَفًّا ؕ لَقَدۡ جِئۡتُمُوۡنَا کَمَا خَلَقۡنٰکُمۡ اَوَّلَ مَرَّۃٍۭ ۫ بَلۡ زَعَمۡتُمۡ اَلَّنۡ نَّجۡعَلَ لَکُمۡ مَّوۡعِدًا ﴿۴۸﴾
48. And they will be presented before your Lord in rows. (It will be said to them:) ‘Indeed, you have come to Us as We created you the first time. Rather, you claimed that We would never appoint for you a time for the fulfilment of the promise.’
وعرضوا على ربك صفا لقد جئتمونا كما خلقناكم أول مرة بل زعمتم ألن نجعل لكم موعدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 48)
وَ وُضِعَ الۡکِتٰبُ فَتَرَی الۡمُجۡرِمِیۡنَ مُشۡفِقِیۡنَ مِمَّا فِیۡہِ وَ یَقُوۡلُوۡنَ یٰوَیۡلَتَنَا مَالِ ہٰذَا الۡکِتٰبِ لَا یُغَادِرُ صَغِیۡرَۃً وَّ لَا کَبِیۡرَۃً اِلَّاۤ اَحۡصٰہَا ۚ وَ وَجَدُوۡا مَا عَمِلُوۡا حَاضِرًا ؕ وَ لَا یَظۡلِمُ رَبُّکَ اَحَدًا ﴿٪۴۹﴾
49. The record of deeds will be laid (open). Then, you will see the evildoers fearful of what is in it. They will say: ‘Oh, woe to us! What kind of record is this that does not omit anything, small or big, but numbers them all.’ And they will find present whatsoever they had done. And your Lord does not deal with anyone unjustly.
ووضع الكتاب فترى المجرمين مشفقين مما فيه ويقولون يا ويلتنا مال هذا الكتاب لا يغادر صغيرة ولا كبيرة إلا أحصاها ووجدوا ما عملوا حاضرا ولا يظلم ربك أحدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 49)
وَ اِذۡ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلٰٓئِکَۃِ اسۡجُدُوۡا لِاٰدَمَ فَسَجَدُوۡۤا اِلَّاۤ اِبۡلِیۡسَ ؕ کَانَ مِنَ الۡجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنۡ اَمۡرِ رَبِّہٖ ؕ اَفَتَتَّخِذُوۡنَہٗ وَ ذُرِّیَّتَہٗۤ اَوۡلِیَآءَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِیۡ وَ ہُمۡ لَکُمۡ عَدُوٌّ ؕ بِئۡسَ لِلظّٰلِمِیۡنَ بَدَلًا ﴿۵۰﴾
50. And (remember) when We said to the angels: ‘Prostrate before Adam (in veneration).’ So they prostrated except Iblis. He was one of the jinn, so he deviated from the command of his Lord. Would you still take him and his offspring as guardians besides Me, though they are your enemies? How evil an exchange for the wrongdoers!
وإذ قلنا للملائكة اسجدوا لآدم فسجدوا إلا إبليس كان من الجن ففسق عن أمر ربه أفتتخذونه وذريته أولياء من دوني وهم لكم عدو بئس للظالمين بدلا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 50)
مَاۤ اَشۡہَدۡتُّہُمۡ خَلۡقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ وَ لَا خَلۡقَ اَنۡفُسِہِمۡ ۪ وَ مَا کُنۡتُ مُتَّخِذَ الۡمُضِلِّیۡنَ عَضُدًا ﴿۵۱﴾
51. I did not make them witnesses to the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor their own creation. And I do not take the misleaders as assistants.
ما أشهدتهم خلق السماوات والأرض ولا خلق أنفسهم وما كنت متخذ المضلين عضدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 51)
وَ یَوۡمَ یَقُوۡلُ نَادُوۡا شُرَکَآءِیَ الَّذِیۡنَ زَعَمۡتُمۡ فَدَعَوۡہُمۡ فَلَمۡ یَسۡتَجِیۡبُوۡا لَہُمۡ وَ جَعَلۡنَا بَیۡنَہُمۡ مَّوۡبِقًا ﴿۵۲﴾
52. On the Day, He will say: ‘Call those whom you claimed as My partners.’ They will call upon them, but they will not respond to them, and We will cause a destructive separation between them.
ويوم يقول نادوا شركائي الذين زعمتم فدعوهم فلم يستجيبوا لهم وجعلنا بينهم موبقا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 52)
وَ رَاَ الۡمُجۡرِمُوۡنَ النَّارَ فَظَنُّوۡۤا اَنَّہُمۡ مُّوَاقِعُوۡہَا وَ لَمۡ یَجِدُوۡا عَنۡہَا مَصۡرِفًا ﴿٪۵۳﴾
53. The evildoers will see the Fire and will realise that they are about to fall into it, and they will find no means of escape from it.
ورأى المجرمون النار فظنوا أنهم مواقعوها ولم يجدوا عنها مصرفا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 53)
وَ لَقَدۡ صَرَّفۡنَا فِیۡ ہٰذَا الۡقُرۡاٰنِ لِلنَّاسِ مِنۡ کُلِّ مَثَلٍ ؕ وَ کَانَ الۡاِنۡسَانُ اَکۡثَرَ شَیۡءٍ جَدَلًا ﴿۵۴﴾
54. Indeed, We have presented in this Qur’an every (kind of) illustration for people. But human being is the most contentious of all creatures.
ولقد صرفنا في هذا القرآن للناس من كل مثل وكان الإنسان أكثر شيء جدلا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 54)
وَ مَا مَنَعَ النَّاسَ اَنۡ یُّؤۡمِنُوۡۤا اِذۡ جَآءَہُمُ الۡہُدٰی وَ یَسۡتَغۡفِرُوۡا رَبَّہُمۡ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡ تَاۡتِیَہُمۡ سُنَّۃُ الۡاَوَّلِیۡنَ اَوۡ یَاۡتِیَہُمُ الۡعَذَابُ قُبُلًا ﴿۵۵﴾
55. Nothing prevents people from believing in their Lord when guidance has come to them and asking forgiveness, except that the fate of the earlier people overtakes them or their punishment confronts them face to face.
وما منع الناس أن يؤمنوا إذ جاءهم الهدى ويستغفروا ربهم إلا أن تأتيهم سنة الأولين أو يأتيهم العذاب قبلا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 55)
وَ مَا نُرۡسِلُ الۡمُرۡسَلِیۡنَ اِلَّا مُبَشِّرِیۡنَ وَ مُنۡذِرِیۡنَ ۚ وَ یُجَادِلُ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا بِالۡبَاطِلِ لِیُدۡحِضُوۡا بِہِ الۡحَقَّ وَ اتَّخَذُوۡۤا اٰیٰتِیۡ وَ مَاۤ اُنۡذِرُوۡا ہُزُوًا ﴿۵۶﴾
56. We do not send the messengers but as bearers of glad tidings and as warners. And those who disbelieve, dispute falsely to refute the truth thereby. And they take My revelations and what they are warned about in mockery.
وما نرسل المرسلين إلا مبشرين ومنذرين ويجادل الذين كفروا بالباطل ليدحضوا به الحق واتخذوا آياتي وما أنذروا هزوا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 56)
وَ مَنۡ اَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنۡ ذُکِّرَ بِاٰیٰتِ رَبِّہٖ فَاَعۡرَضَ عَنۡہَا وَ نَسِیَ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ یَدٰہُ ؕ اِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا عَلٰی قُلُوۡبِہِمۡ اَکِنَّۃً اَنۡ یَّفۡقَہُوۡہُ وَ فِیۡۤ اٰذَانِہِمۡ وَقۡرًا ؕ وَ اِنۡ تَدۡعُہُمۡ اِلَی الۡہُدٰی فَلَنۡ یَّہۡتَدُوۡۤا اِذًا اَبَدًا ﴿۵۷﴾
57. Who is more unjust than he who has been reminded of the signs of his Lord, but he turns away from them and forgets what his hands have sent forth? Indeed, We have placed coverings over their hearts, lest they should understand it, and a deafness in their ears. And if you invite them to (the path of) guidance, they will never (let themselves) be guided.
ومن أظلم ممن ذكر بآيات ربه فأعرض عنها ونسي ما قدمت يداه إنا جعلنا على قلوبهم أكنة أن يفقهوه وفي آذانهم وقرا وإن تدعهم إلى الهدى فلن يهتدوا إذا أبدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 57)
وَ رَبُّکَ الۡغَفُوۡرُ ذُو الرَّحۡمَۃِ ؕ لَوۡ یُؤَاخِذُہُمۡ بِمَا کَسَبُوۡا لَعَجَّلَ لَہُمُ الۡعَذَابَ ؕ بَلۡ لَّہُمۡ مَّوۡعِدٌ لَّنۡ یَّجِدُوۡا مِنۡ دُوۡنِہٖ مَوۡئِلًا ﴿۵۸﴾
58. And your Lord is All-Forgiving, the Possessor of Mercy. Were He to punish them because of what they had committed, He would have hastened the punishment for them. But they have a fixed time (when) they shall not find a refuge besides Him.
وربك الغفور ذو الرحمة لو يؤاخذهم بما كسبوا لعجل لهم العذاب بل لهم موعد لن يجدوا من دونه موئلا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 58)
وَ اِذۡ قَالَ مُوۡسٰی لِفَتٰىہُ لَاۤ اَبۡرَحُ حَتّٰۤی اَبۡلُغَ مَجۡمَعَ الۡبَحۡرَیۡنِ اَوۡ اَمۡضِیَ حُقُبًا ﴿۶۰﴾
60. And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his young companion: ‘I shall not stop until I reach the junction of the two seas, even if I keep travelling for ages.’
وإذ قال موسى لفتاه لا أبرح حتى أبلغ مجمع البحرين أو أمضي حقبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 60)
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَا مَجۡمَعَ بَیۡنِہِمَا نَسِیَا حُوۡتَہُمَا فَاتَّخَذَ سَبِیۡلَہٗ فِی الۡبَحۡرِ سَرَبًا ﴿۶۱﴾
61. So when they reached the (location of the) junction of the two (seas), they forgot their fish (there), which made its way into the sea and swam away.
فلما بلغا مجمع بينهما نسيا حوتهما فاتخذ سبيله في البحر سربا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 61)
فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَا قَالَ لِفَتٰىہُ اٰتِنَا غَدَآءَنَا ۫ لَقَدۡ لَقِیۡنَا مِنۡ سَفَرِنَا ہٰذَا نَصَبًا ﴿۶۲﴾
62. But when they had gone further, he told his young companion: ‘Bring us our meal. Surely, we have encountered much fatigue during this journey of ours.’
فلما جاوزا قال لفتاه آتنا غداءنا لقد لقينا من سفرنا هذا نصبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 62)
قَالَ اَرَءَیۡتَ اِذۡ اَوَیۡنَاۤ اِلَی الصَّخۡرَۃِ فَاِنِّیۡ نَسِیۡتُ الۡحُوۡتَ ۫ وَ مَاۤ اَنۡسٰنِیۡہُ اِلَّا الشَّیۡطٰنُ اَنۡ اَذۡکُرَہٗ ۚ وَ اتَّخَذَ سَبِیۡلَہٗ فِی الۡبَحۡرِ ٭ۖ عَجَبًا ﴿۶۳﴾
63. He (the disciple) said: ‘Did you notice? When we rested at the rock, I forgot the fish (there), and none but Satan made me forget to mention it (to you). And it made its way into the sea amazingly (after returning to life).’
قال أرأيت إذ أوينا إلى الصخرة فإني نسيت الحوت وما أنسانيه إلا الشيطان أن أذكره واتخذ سبيله في البحر عجبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 63)
فَوَجَدَا عَبۡدًا مِّنۡ عِبَادِنَاۤ اٰتَیۡنٰہُ رَحۡمَۃً مِّنۡ عِنۡدِنَا وَ عَلَّمۡنٰہُ مِنۡ لَّدُنَّا عِلۡمًا ﴿۶۵﴾
65. They found a (unique) servant from among Our servants (there, i.e. al-Khidr), whom We had granted special mercy from Ourselves and whom We had taught special knowledge from Our presence.
فوجدا عبدا من عبادنا آتيناه رحمة من عندنا وعلمناه من لدنا علما
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 65)
فَانۡطَلَقَا ٝ حَتّٰۤی اِذَا رَکِبَا فِی السَّفِیۡنَۃِ خَرَقَہَا ؕ قَالَ اَخَرَقۡتَہَا لِتُغۡرِقَ اَہۡلَہَا ۚ لَقَدۡ جِئۡتَ شَیۡئًا اِمۡرًا ﴿۷۱﴾
71. So they went on till they boarded the boat, (and) he (al-Khidr) made a hole in it. He (Moses) said: ‘Did you make a hole in it to drown its people? Surely, you have done a grievous thing.’
فانطلقا حتى إذا ركبا في السفينة خرقها قال أخرقتها لتغرق أهلها لقد جئت شيئا إمرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 71)
فَانۡطَلَقَا ٝ حَتّٰۤی اِذَا لَقِیَا غُلٰمًا فَقَتَلَہٗ ۙ قَالَ اَقَتَلۡتَ نَفۡسًا زَکِیَّۃًۢ بِغَیۡرِ نَفۡسٍ ؕ لَقَدۡ جِئۡتَ شَیۡئًا نُّکۡرًا ﴿۷۴﴾
74. So they travelled on until they came across a young boy. He (al-Khidr) killed him. He (Moses) said: ‘Did you kill an innocent soul who had slain no other soul? Indeed, you have done a terrible thing!’
فانطلقا حتى إذا لقيا غلاما فقتله قال أقتلت نفسا زكية بغير نفس لقد جئت شيئا نكرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 74)
قَالَ اِنۡ سَاَلۡتُکَ عَنۡ شَیۡءٍۭ بَعۡدَہَا فَلَا تُصٰحِبۡنِیۡ ۚ قَدۡ بَلَغۡتَ مِنۡ لَّدُنِّیۡ عُذۡرًا ﴿۷۶﴾
76. He (Moses) said: ‘If I question you about anything after this, do not keep me in your company. You have already received sufficient excuse on my part.’
قال إن سألتك عن شيء بعدها فلا تصاحبني قد بلغت من لدني عذرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 76)
فَانۡطَلَقَا ٝ حَتّٰۤی اِذَاۤ اَتَیَاۤ اَہۡلَ قَرۡیَۃِۣ اسۡتَطۡعَمَاۤ اَہۡلَہَا فَاَبَوۡا اَنۡ یُّضَیِّفُوۡہُمَا فَوَجَدَا فِیۡہَا جِدَارًا یُّرِیۡدُ اَنۡ یَّنۡقَضَّ فَاَقَامَہٗ ؕ قَالَ لَوۡ شِئۡتَ لَتَّخَذۡتَ عَلَیۡہِ اَجۡرًا ﴿۷۷﴾
77. So they moved on until they came to the people of a town. They asked its people for food, but they refused to show them any hospitality. There, they found a wall which was about to collapse. So he (al-Khidr) erected it. He (Moses) said: ‘Had you wished, you could have taken a wage for it.’
فانطلقا حتى إذا أتيا أهل قرية استطعما أهلها فأبوا أن يضيفوهما فوجدا فيها جدارا يريد أن ينقض فأقامه قال لو شئت لاتخذت عليه أجرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 77)
قَالَ ہٰذَا فِرَاقُ بَیۡنِیۡ وَ بَیۡنِکَ ۚ سَاُنَبِّئُکَ بِتَاۡوِیۡلِ مَا لَمۡ تَسۡتَطِعۡ عَّلَیۡہِ صَبۡرًا ﴿۷۸﴾
78. He (al-Khidr) said: ‘This is the parting between you and me. Now, I shall inform you about the interpretation of what you could not bear patiently.
قال هذا فراق بيني وبينك سأنبئك بتأويل ما لم تستطع عليه صبرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 78)
اَمَّا السَّفِیۡنَۃُ فَکَانَتۡ لِمَسٰکِیۡنَ یَعۡمَلُوۡنَ فِی الۡبَحۡرِ فَاَرَدۡتُّ اَنۡ اَعِیۡبَہَا وَ کَانَ وَرَآءَہُمۡ مَّلِکٌ یَّاۡخُذُ کُلَّ سَفِیۡنَۃٍ غَصۡبًا ﴿۷۹﴾
79. As for the boat, it belonged to some poor people working at sea. I wanted to make it defective, for ahead of them was a king, coming to seize every (serviceable) boat by force.
أما السفينة فكانت لمساكين يعملون في البحر فأردت أن أعيبها وكان وراءهم ملك يأخذ كل سفينة غصبا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 79)
وَ اَمَّا الۡغُلٰمُ فَکَانَ اَبَوٰہُ مُؤۡمِنَیۡنِ فَخَشِیۡنَاۤ اَنۡ یُّرۡہِقَہُمَا طُغۡیَانًا وَّ کُفۡرًا ﴿ۚ۸۰﴾
80. As for the young boy, his parents were believers, and we feared he would trouble them with rebellion and disbelief.
وأما الغلام فكان أبواه مؤمنين فخشينا أن يرهقهما طغيانا وكفرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 80)
وَ اَمَّا الۡجِدَارُ فَکَانَ لِغُلٰمَیۡنِ یَتِیۡمَیۡنِ فِی الۡمَدِیۡنَۃِ وَ کَانَ تَحۡتَہٗ کَنۡزٌ لَّہُمَا وَ کَانَ اَبُوۡہُمَا صَالِحًا ۚ فَاَرَادَ رَبُّکَ اَنۡ یَّبۡلُغَاۤ اَشُدَّہُمَا وَ یَسۡتَخۡرِجَا کَنۡزَہُمَا ٭ۖ رَحۡمَۃً مِّنۡ رَّبِّکَ ۚ وَ مَا فَعَلۡتُہٗ عَنۡ اَمۡرِیۡ ؕ ذٰلِکَ تَاۡوِیۡلُ مَا لَمۡ تَسۡطِعۡ عَّلَیۡہِ صَبۡرًا ﴿ؕ٪۸۲﴾
82. As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the town. And under it, there was a treasure belonging to them. And their father was a righteous man. So your Lord desired that they should reach their maturity and take out their treasure (themselves). (This was) your Lord’s kindness. And I did not do it of my own accord. This is the interpretation of what you could not bear patiently.’
وأما الجدار فكان لغلامين يتيمين في المدينة وكان تحته كنز لهما وكان أبوهما صالحا فأراد ربك أن يبلغا أشدهما ويستخرجا كنزهما رحمة من ربك وما فعلته عن أمري ذلك تأويل ما لم تسطع عليه صبرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 82)
حَتّٰۤی اِذَا بَلَغَ مَغۡرِبَ الشَّمۡسِ وَجَدَہَا تَغۡرُبُ فِیۡ عَیۡنٍ حَمِئَۃٍ وَّ وَجَدَ عِنۡدَہَا قَوۡمًا ۬ؕ قُلۡنَا یٰذَا الۡقَرۡنَیۡنِ اِمَّاۤ اَنۡ تُعَذِّبَ وَ اِمَّاۤ اَنۡ تَتَّخِذَ فِیۡہِمۡ حُسۡنًا ﴿۸۶﴾
86. until he reached the place (towards the west) where he perceived the sun setting. He found it (seemingly) setting into a spring of murky hot water.* And he found some people (living) nearby. We said: ‘O Dhu al-Qarnayn, you may either punish them or treat them kindly.’
* This spring of murky hot water is possibly a reference to the black sea.
حتى إذا بلغ مغرب الشمس وجدها تغرب في عين حمئة ووجد عندها قوما قلنا يا ذا القرنين إما أن تعذب وإما أن تتخذ فيهم حسنا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 86)
قَالَ اَمَّا مَنۡ ظَلَمَ فَسَوۡفَ نُعَذِّبُہٗ ثُمَّ یُرَدُّ اِلٰی رَبِّہٖ فَیُعَذِّبُہٗ عَذَابًا نُّکۡرًا ﴿۸۷﴾
87. He said: ‘As for him who does wrong, we shall punish him. Then he shall be returned to his Lord. And He will punish him with a dreadful torment.
قال أما من ظلم فسوف نعذبه ثم يرد إلى ربه فيعذبه عذابا نكرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 87)
وَ اَمَّا مَنۡ اٰمَنَ وَ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَہٗ جَزَآءَۨ الۡحُسۡنٰی ۚ وَ سَنَقُوۡلُ لَہٗ مِنۡ اَمۡرِنَا یُسۡرًا ﴿ؕ۸۸﴾
88. But as for the one who believes and acts righteously, he shall have a beautiful reward. And We shall speak to him a gentle word of our command.’
وأما من آمن وعمل صالحا فله جزاء الحسنى وسنقول له من أمرنا يسرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 88)
حَتّٰۤی اِذَا بَلَغَ مَطۡلِعَ الشَّمۡسِ وَجَدَہَا تَطۡلُعُ عَلٰی قَوۡمٍ لَّمۡ نَجۡعَلۡ لَّہُمۡ مِّنۡ دُوۡنِہَا سِتۡرًا ﴿ۙ۹۰﴾
90. until he reached the place (towards the east) where he perceived (the rising of) the sun. He found it (seemingly) rising over a people for whom We had not made any shelter from it.
حتى إذا بلغ مطلع الشمس وجدها تطلع على قوم لم نجعل لهم من دونها سترا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 90)
حَتّٰۤی اِذَا بَلَغَ بَیۡنَ السَّدَّیۡنِ وَجَدَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِہِمَا قَوۡمًا ۙ لَّا یَکَادُوۡنَ یَفۡقَہُوۡنَ قَوۡلًا ﴿۹۳﴾
93. until he reached (a place) between two barriers. He found beside them a people who could hardly understand a word.
حتى إذا بلغ بين السدين وجد من دونهما قوما لا يكادون يفقهون قولا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 93)
قَالُوۡا یٰذَاالۡقَرۡنَیۡنِ اِنَّ یَاۡجُوۡجَ وَ مَاۡجُوۡجَ مُفۡسِدُوۡنَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَہَلۡ نَجۡعَلُ لَکَ خَرۡجًا عَلٰۤی اَنۡ تَجۡعَلَ بَیۡنَنَا وَ بَیۡنَہُمۡ سَدًّا ﴿۹۴﴾
94. They said: ‘O Dhu al-Qarnayn! Indeed, Gog and Magog are making trouble in the land. Should we pay you a tribute, provided you build a barrier between them and us?’
قالوا يا ذا القرنين إن يأجوج ومأجوج مفسدون في الأرض فهل نجعل لك خرجا على أن تجعل بيننا وبينهم سدا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 94)
قَالَ مَا مَکَّنِّیۡ فِیۡہِ رَبِّیۡ خَیۡرٌ فَاَعِیۡنُوۡنِیۡ بِقُوَّۃٍ اَجۡعَلۡ بَیۡنَکُمۡ وَ بَیۡنَہُمۡ رَدۡمًا ﴿ۙ۹۵﴾
95. He said: ‘Whatever my Lord has established me with is better (than what you are offering). So, help me with some workforce. I will put up a fortified barricade between you and them.
قال ما مكني فيه ربي خير فأعينوني بقوة أجعل بينكم وبينهم ردما
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 95)
اٰتُوۡنِیۡ زُبَرَ الۡحَدِیۡدِ ؕ حَتّٰۤی اِذَا سَاوٰی بَیۡنَ الصَّدَفَیۡنِ قَالَ انۡفُخُوۡا ؕ حَتّٰۤی اِذَا جَعَلَہٗ نَارًا ۙ قَالَ اٰتُوۡنِیۡۤ اُفۡرِغۡ عَلَیۡہِ قِطۡرًا ﴿ؕ۹۶﴾
96. Bring me blocks of iron.’ Then, when he had levelled up the space between the two top sides, he said: ‘Blow!’ When he had turned it into fire, he said: ‘Bring me some molten copper to pour over it.’
آتوني زبر الحديد حتى إذا ساوى بين الصدفين قال انفخوا حتى إذا جعله نارا قال آتوني أفرغ عليه قطرا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 96)
قَالَ ہٰذَا رَحۡمَۃٌ مِّنۡ رَّبِّیۡ ۚ فَاِذَا جَآءَ وَعۡدُ رَبِّیۡ جَعَلَہٗ دَکَّآءَ ۚ وَ کَانَ وَعۡدُ رَبِّیۡ حَقًّا ﴿ؕ۹۸﴾
98. He (Dhu al-Qarnayn) said: ‘This is a mercy from my Lord (to hold back the terrors of Gog and Magog from the people). But when my Lord’s promise (of the Last Hour) comes, He will (demolish this barrier and) level it to the ground (or reduce it to dust particles). And my Lord’s promise always comes true.’
قال هذا رحمة من ربي فإذا جاء وعد ربي جعله دكاء وكان وعد ربي حقا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 98)
وَ تَرَکۡنَا بَعۡضَہُمۡ یَوۡمَئِذٍ یَّمُوۡجُ فِیۡ بَعۡضٍ وَّ نُفِخَ فِی الصُّوۡرِ فَجَمَعۡنٰہُمۡ جَمۡعًا ﴿ۙ۹۹﴾
99. On that Day, We shall let them surge like waves over one another. Later, the Trumpet will be blown, and We will gather them all.
وتركنا بعضهم يومئذ يموج في بعض ونفخ في الصور فجمعناهم جمعا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 99)
اَفَحَسِبَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡۤا اَنۡ یَّتَّخِذُوۡا عِبَادِیۡ مِنۡ دُوۡنِیۡۤ اَوۡلِیَآءَ ؕ اِنَّـاۤ اَعۡتَدۡنَا جَہَنَّمَ لِلۡکٰفِرِیۡنَ نُزُلًا ﴿۱۰۲﴾
102. Do the disbelievers suppose they may take My servants as (their) guardians besides Me? Indeed, We have prepared Hell as a reception for the disbelievers.
أفحسب الذين كفروا أن يتخذوا عبادي من دوني أولياء إنا أعتدنا جهنم للكافرين نزلا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 102)
اَلَّذِیۡنَ ضَلَّ سَعۡیُہُمۡ فِی الۡحَیٰوۃِ الدُّنۡیَا وَ ہُمۡ یَحۡسَبُوۡنَ اَنَّہُمۡ یُحۡسِنُوۡنَ صُنۡعًا ﴿۱۰۴﴾
104. (They are) those whose efforts in this world are misguided while they think they are doing good work.’
الذين ضل سعيهم في الحياة الدنيا وهم يحسبون أنهم يحسنون صنعا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 104)
اُولٰٓئِکَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا بِاٰیٰتِ رَبِّہِمۡ وَ لِقَآئِہٖ فَحَبِطَتۡ اَعۡمَالُہُمۡ فَلَا نُقِیۡمُ لَہُمۡ یَوۡمَ الۡقِیٰمَۃِ وَزۡنًا ﴿۱۰۵﴾
105. They are the ones who disbelieve in the signs of their Lord and the meeting with Him. So their deeds have come to nothing. On the Day of Resurrection, We shall not give them any weight.
أولئك الذين كفروا بآيات ربهم ولقائه فحبطت أعمالهم فلا نقيم لهم يوم القيامة وزنا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 105)
اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ کَانَتۡ لَہُمۡ جَنّٰتُ الۡفِرۡدَوۡسِ نُزُلًا ﴿۱۰۷﴾ۙ
107. Indeed, those who believe and perform righteous deeds shall have the Gardens of Paradise as (their) reception (and hospitality),
إن الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات كانت لهم جنات الفردوس نزلا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 107)
قُلۡ لَّوۡ کَانَ الۡبَحۡرُ مِدَادًا لِّکَلِمٰتِ رَبِّیۡ لَنَفِدَ الۡبَحۡرُ قَبۡلَ اَنۡ تَنۡفَدَ کَلِمٰتُ رَبِّیۡ وَ لَوۡ جِئۡنَا بِمِثۡلِہٖ مَدَدًا ﴿۱۰۹﴾
109. Say: ‘If the ocean were ink for the Words of my Lord, the ocean would surely run dry before the Words of my Lord are finished, even if we brought another like it to help.’
قل لو كان البحر مدادا لكلمات ربي لنفد البحر قبل أن تنفد كلمات ربي ولو جئنا بمثله مددا
(الْكَهْف، 18 : 109)
قُلۡ اِنَّمَاۤ اَنَا بَشَرٌ مِّثۡلُکُمۡ یُوۡحٰۤی اِلَیَّ اَنَّمَاۤ اِلٰـہُکُمۡ اِلٰہٌ وَّاحِدٌ ۚ فَمَنۡ کَانَ یَرۡجُوۡا لِقَآءَ رَبِّہٖ فَلۡیَعۡمَلۡ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَّ لَا یُشۡرِکۡ بِعِبَادَۃِ رَبِّہٖۤ اَحَدًا ﴿۱۱۰﴾٪
