6. O believers! When you (intend to) stand for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, wipe your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of major ritual impurity, then purify yourselves (by washing your whole body). But if you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you has come from answering the call of nature, or you have intimate contact with a woman (having sexual intercourse) and cannot find water, then (in these cases) make recourse to clean earth, and wipe your faces and your hands with it. Allah does not want to put you into hardship, but He wants to purify you and complete His blessing upon you so that you may be grateful.
