وَ مِمَّنۡ حَوۡلَکُمۡ مِّنَ الۡاَعۡرَابِ مُنٰفِقُوۡنَ ؕۛ وَ مِنۡ اَہۡلِ الۡمَدِیۡنَۃِ ۟ۛؔ مَرَدُوۡا عَلَی النِّفَاقِ ۟ لَا تَعۡلَمُہُمۡ ؕ نَحۡنُ نَعۡلَمُہُمۡ ؕ سَنُعَذِّبُہُمۡ مَّرَّتَیۡنِ ثُمَّ یُرَدُّوۡنَ اِلٰی عَذَابٍ عَظِیۡمٍ ﴿۱۰۱﴾ۚ
101. (O believers!) Some of the Bedouins who dwell (in the deserts) around you are hypocrites, and some of the town people (of Medina) have grown bold in hypocrisy. You do not know them, but We know them well. We shall punish them twice. Then, they will be returned to (face) a grievous punishment (in the Hereafter).
* Firstly, they were identified and the Holy Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) expelled them from the Mosque pointing them out by name during his Friday address. This was the first torment in the form of humiliation and ignominy. Secondly, they were punished through fighting and killings, for which the command came later.
